Swipe MTV Volt 1000 6-Inch Display Smartphone Officially Launched

The smartphone has a dual-core processor, and comes with 1GB RAM; but forgets about pixel density.

Swipe Telecom, which has the Fablet F2 (Rs 7500) and the Fablet F3 (Rs 9290) in India, has released yet another smartphone with a 6-inch display called the MTV Volt 1000, a successor to their MTV Volt Android smartphone (was priced at Rs 13K). The new handset inherits almost all of its predecessor's technical specifications, but adds more RAM and drops the price. Swipe's MTV Volt 1000 has 1GB of RAM, and is priced at Rs 11,999.

The smartphone runs the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean platform, and comes with an 8MP rear camera. A dual-core processor drives the Swipe MTV Volt 1000. Technical specifications of the device are:

  • 6-inch capacitive touch screen, 480x854 pixels
  • Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) operating system
  • Dual-SIM support
  • 1.2 GHz dual-core MediaTek processor
  • 1GB DDR3 RAM
  • 4GB internal storage
  • MicroSD card slot for expansion up to 32 GB
  • 8 MP rear camera, and a 1.3 MP front camera
  • Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and USB 2.0 connectivity
  • 2,820 mAh Li-Ion battery

The specs sound interesting, and Swipe is clearly exploiting the "smartphones with large display" trend with its MTV Volt smartphone series. However, even if the company may have forgotten one small detail, potential buyers will have to consider that the low screen resolution on such a large screen may not necessarily be a pretty sight.

Swipe's MTV Volt runs into the recently released Intex Aqua I-5 that offers a quad-core processor and a 12MP camera at virtually the same price (Rs 11,960) as that of Swipe MTV Volt. There is also the Karbonn Titanium S1 that offers decent tech-specs along with a quad-core processor for Rs 10,300. Of course, neither of those two alternatives have quite as large a display as the Volt.
