Byond B67 Dual-SIM Smartphone With 5" Display Launched At Rs 11k

Byond B67 provides 3G connectivity and dual-SIM support (GSM+GSM).

Indian brand Byond has made available the Byond B67, iterating upon its B66 smartphone that thrived on being a part of the "5-inch display" trend. In the intervening 4 months though, there have been far too many entrants in this space and larger screens have become more common. The Byond B67 has a 5-inch display, but not much else to stand out from the crowd. Priced at Rs 10,999 (online), this dual-SIM device runs on the outdated Android 4.0.4 platform (Ice Cream Sandwich).

Here are the notable tech-specs of the Byond B67:

  • 5" capacitive display, 800x480 pixels
  • Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich platform
  • dual-SIM support
  • 8MP rear camera and a front VGA snapper
  • 1 GHz dual-core processor
  • 512 MB RAM
  • 4GB internal storage
  • microSD card slot for expansion up to 8GB
  • 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GSM connectivity
  • 2000mAh battery, claimed talk time of 2-3 hrs

The older Byond B66 (online price Rs 9,200) itself becomes the closest competitor to the B67, as Byond is not exactly in the same league as other Indian brands such as Micromaxx or Karbonn, where service and distribution/availability are concerned. The B66 smartphone would save Rs 1,500 yet get you a slightly faster processor (1.2 GHz dual-core) and larger battery (2600mAh). I'm mystified that a company could release a "newer" Android phone at a higher price, even when its specs don't show a corresponding increase - unless it points towards component supply drying up to put together the "older" phone.
