Google Now Launched For iPhone And iPad, Siri Faces Competition

Uses the search giant's natural language search engine and other resources.

 

It seems like Apple's iPhone and iPad will be getting a new talking assistant as Google has just launched its Now service for iOS. Instead of launching it separately, Google has integrated it with its free Google Search app on the App Store. Google Now had been introduced last June, along with the Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) OS. The app is also available for Android users on Google Play Store.

The app uses Google's natural language search to find what the user requests, after converting spoken words to text. It is similar to Siri, but has an edge as Google's vast resource is at its disposal (better search engine, map and location data, calendar, user history, etc). Siri, on the other hand, remains confined to iDevices and thus has lesser reach than its competitor. Siri surely wasn't a roaring success in this part of the world, but we don't yet know how well Google Now will work in India.
