Lenovo ThinkPad Twist Launched At Rs 71,000

Windows 8-based laptop converts to a tablet at the twist of the screen.

Lenovo has launched its ThinkPad Twist convertible Ultrabook PC in India yesterday. The Windows 8 device sports a unique twisting form factor that involves the laptop's screen rotating 180 degrees parallel to the plane of the keyboard around a hinge and bending backward to form a tablet. At just 2 cm thick, this device weighs 1.6 kg. It sports a 12.5" IPS HD display with a claimed 350 nit brightness. Corning Gorilla Glass protects the 10-point capacitive touchscreen against scratches and is also said to be resistant to smudges.

The device is available in variants of Intel Core i3, i5, and i7. A 500 GB hard drive with HDD performance booster takes care of storage. A full-size keyboard with TrackPoint and touchpad are provided for navigation in addition to the touch input via the screen. The device is also mentioned to have VoIP enhancements such as conference call microphone mode, keystroke noise-suppression. Additionally, it also has Intel Trusted Platform Module (TPM) built into it to take care of data security even if the device gets stolen. While the company is targeting business users, this can be of use even to the general consumer. The base price of the Lenovo ThinkPad Twist is Rs 71,000, which is actually similar to the Core i5-based Samsung ATIV Smart PC Pro 700 T1C with a slightly smaller 11.6" screen.
