Nokia Asha 310 Mobile Phone Launched, Price Confirmed at Rs 5500

Its Wi-Fi and dual-Sim nature is claimed to be a first for Nokia mobile-phones.

Update: Nokia Asha 310 can now be purchased online from Nokia at Rs 5600, and also from Saholic and Snapdeal for a price of Rs 5500. We had covered the Nokia Asha 310 launch a month earlier, which you can read below.

Feb13: Nokia has announced its next feature phone, the Asha 310, and claims that the device's USP is its ability to provide Wi-Fi and dual-SIM support. It is expected to be priced at $102 (approx Rs 5500), according to a blog on Nokia's website.

"The powerful combination of Dual SIM plus Wi-Fi in the same device, a first for Nokia smartphones, gives consumers the best of both worlds by offering the flexibility to enjoy more mobile experiences while managing their costs”, stated Nokia in the press relase. Do note that Nokia Asha series does not necessarily fall in to the category of smartphones (by today's standards). More over, the speciality of dual-SIM and Wi-Fi being incorporated in a single device is nothing new, even if it is a first for Nokia (most other smartphone manufacturers have picked this concept up in recent times).

The technical specifications of the Nokia Asha 310 are as under:

  • 3-inch capacitive touchscreen with 400x240 pixels
  • Dual-SIM support
  • 2 MP  rear camera
  • Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi, USB connectivity
  • 128 MB internal memory expandable with microSD card
  • Pre-loaded 4GB memory card, 2GB card in some countries like Brazil

Nokia also states on paper that its Xpress browser included in the Asha 310 saves money by compressing Internet data up to 90 percent. Actually, the Express browser delivers data to Nokia's server, which in turn compresses data and sends it to users' devices, thus resulting in optimization [the mobile browser Opera Mini has been doing this for over three years now].

If you are on the lookout for "budget smartphones", Micromax Ninja A87 running on the Android Gingerbread platform, which has a street price of Rs 6,000 has better specs than the Asha 310.
