Sharp Unveils A Phone With Dual Display Notch

The phone comes with waterproof body and powerful processor.

Japanese technology market is different than the rest of the world. While most brands are trying to do away with the screen notch in order to achieve maximum screen-to-body ratio, Sharp has showcased the Aquos R2 Compact with two notches on its display.

To be precise, the phone sports a 5.2-inch LCD screen with one notch on the top side whereas a bigger notch sits in the chin area. The latter hosts a fingerprint sensor. Surprisingly, the phone also features a face unlock feature. Makes us wonder if the bottom notch was important then.

The Aquos R2 offers flagship-grade specs. It is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 chipset. It has 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage. You can expand it via the microSD card slot.

For photography, you have to settle for a 22.6 MP rear camera. It comes with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) for superior low-light snaps. For selfies, there's an 8 MP front-facing camera.

The phone has a sleek design. Moreover, it is water and dust resistant. On the software front, it offers Android 9.0. The Sharp Aquos R2 Compact will hit the stores in Japan in January. There's no information on its pricing and International release.
