UIDAI Launches ‘mAadhaar’ App On Android

The app helps in easy sharing of your Aadhaar profile and in TOTP generation.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched its new mobile application called as the ‘mAadhaar’ which synchronises your Aadhaar data on to your mobile phone. The app is currently available only on Android operating system.

Having said that, the mAadhaar app enables you to carry your Aadhaar numbers with all the demographic details anywhere and anytime. It also enables biometric locking / unlocking — secures biometric authentication by locking biometrics data.

Additionally, the mAadhaar app helps in TOTP generation which is basically a ‘Time-based One-Time Password’. This can be used instead of SMS based OTP, according to the app’s description on Google Play Store.

While all these features definitely sound helpful, there is one thing that you may have to consider. You would be needing the registered mobile number in order to use mAadhaar app. In case, you current number is not registered with Aadhaar, you will have to visit the nearest Enrolment Centre and get it updated.

Adding further, it is worth noting that, you will have to be careful while downloading the app from Google Play Store. There is a fake app in the same name as well, and thus, just check the spelling and make sure the developer of the app is UIDAI.
