Sony Entertainment Television Launches HD Version Of Its SET Channel

High-definition feed will be broadcast simultaneously along with its analogue counterpart; promises better image quality.

Sony Entertainment Television (SET) has announced the launch of a new high-definition broadcast of its TV channel, starting 28th May. While continuing to telecast the analogue channel, the HD feed will also be made available simultaneously via various DTH service providers such as Dish TV, Videocon, Tata Sky, airtel, Hathway, and Seven Star. However, if this is merely HD upscaling, then you should not expect too much from this improvement, as the serials may still not be shot in HD.

Multi Screen Media Pvt Ltd COO NP Singh said, "I am pleased to announce that our flagship channel Sony is all set to be broadcast in HD. Traditionally, SET Network has always embraced  technological excellence and going HD is another step in that direction. Improving viewer delight is our aim & I am sure that our consumers will enjoy the enhanced viewer experience immensely". MSM, a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment, owns the channel.

SET Senior Executive Vice President and Business Head Sneha Rajani added, "As a channel that has always been a pioneer in its content offering for the TV audience at large, Sony will continue to keep its viewers in the forefront and be a leader in the marketplace. Going HD is a continuation of that focus and a very proud moment for us all".

While IPL has already been aired in high-definition on MAX in addition to another sports HD channel SIX, the MSM bouquet will now also offer SET in HD. STAR, Zee, and Colors have been broadcasting HD channels in India in addition to Discovery, History, and National Geographic, among others.
