CES 2017: Asus Launches Zenfone AR and Zenfone 3 Zoom

Zenfone AR comes with 8 GB RAM and Zenfone 3 Zoom features a 5,000 mAh battery.

Asus has finally unveiled two of its much rumoured smartphones, ZenFone AR and ZenFone 3 Zoom at CES 2017.

Just as expected, the Asus Zenfone AR turns out to be the world’s first Tango-enabled and Daydream-ready smartphone. It is also claimed that the Asus ZenFone AR is the world’s first smartphone having an 8 GB RAM, though we may also see the device in lower specs as well. To recall, the smartphone was revealed earlier by Qualcomm.

Sporting a 5.7 inch Super AMOLED QHD display, the Asus Zenfone AR is mostly designed around the possibilities of augmented reality and virtual reality. Having said this, the smartphone features Snapdragon 821 processor, which we feel to be outdated, especially for AR/VR features powered by Tango. However, the company claims that the Snapdragon 821 processor has been customised for Tango.

Technically speaking, the company has introduced a 23 MP Sony IMX318 camera module with TriTech+ autofocus system as its primary camera. It also supports 4K video recording, 4-axis OIS and 3-axis EIS.

On the other hand, the company has also announced Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom which comes with a 5,000 mAh battery , 5.5 inch FHD AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5, Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, up to 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of ROM, and a dual rear camera setup.

The rear camera setup includes one 12 MP rear camera with Sony IMX362 sensor and another 12 MP with 2.3x optical zoo. On the front, the smartphone has a 13 MP camera with Sony IMX214 sensor.

Speaking about the availability of both the smartphones, the Zenfone AR should be up in stories by Q2 2017, and the Zenfone 3 Zoom will be available starting February 2017. And, as far as the price tags are concerned, they will be announced by the company at the time of official launch in different regions.
