Xiaomi's New Flagship Mi 5S Takes On The OnePlus 3

The highly-anticipated smartphopne from one of the most valued start-ups is out. Xiaomi has unveiled its top-of-the-line Mi 5S smartphone in China. As opposed to its predecessor's sharp design language, the new handset is more on the curvy side. Much like the OnePlus 3, the Mi 5 5S has a metal unibody.

The phone sports a 5.1-inch Full HD screen, which is slightly curved. It is powered by a powerful Snapdragon 821 chipset. The Adreno 530 GPU handles the gaming part. The phone has 3 GB RAM, and 64 GB internal storage. In the photography department, you a 12-megapixel camera backed by Sony's IMX378 1/2.3-inch sensor. The snapper can record 4K videos. For selfies, there's a 4-megapixel camera. Other features include 4G VoLTE dual-SIM support, dual band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, and NFC. The device comes with Type-C USB port so you can't borrow your friend's charger when you need it the most. The handset packs-in a 3100 mAh \ 3200 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0. Yes, it seems Xiaomi is not certain about what battery capacity are they shipping their handset with.



The Xiaomi Mi 5S also comes with an "ultrasonic fingerprint scanner". According to the company, it is supposed to make the user identification relatively faster. On the software side of things, you get Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Xiaomi's latest MIUI 8 on top. In its home country, the Xiaomi Mi 5S will be available for purchase by the end of this month. It is pegged at 1999 yuan, which roughly translates to Rs 20,000.
