Another Xiaomi Smart Bike To Be Unveiled On June 23

Company to put an end to teasers and speculation at today’s event.

A few days ago, Xiaomi had released a teaser about what most speculated was a smart bike. What little we could see was rather nice looking: red taillight and a headlamp, as well as an on-board display with statistics such as speed, power, and distance travelled. The fact that the power is displayed indicates that the bike is an electric one.

Earlier this year, Xiaomi had launched the YunBike C1, the result of an investment with a startup called Yunmake. The bike had an electric motor and various sensors- e.g. the sensors could detect when the bike was going uphill, and provide extra power. The bundled 5100 mAh battery could power the bike for 55km before it needed plugging in again.

It included a smartphone mount on the handlebar, and the user could connect the phone to the bike via Bluetooth. A connected app would then give access to data such as speed and maps.

Xiaomi has also crowdfunded another smart bike, the QiCycle R1, of which at least 110 units have been sold since this May- rather surprising, given that the bike was priced $3000 (USD, not HKD).

Little enough information is available on the as-yet-unnamed smart bike; perhaps we can expect similar features at a more reasonable price. We’ll know once the bike is unveiled at a Xiaomi event later today.
