Snapchat and BuzzFeed To Host Summer Olympics Video Highlights

The exclusive Snapchat deal news was first reported by Bloomberg.

The National Broadcasting Company (NBC) has for the first ever time agreed to share its video contents with Snapchat for the upcoming Summer Olympics to be held in Rio de Janeiro.

Snapchat is slated host videos curated by BuzzFeed with live story updates regarding the Olympics highlights.NBC has never struck a deal for Olympics footage to be shared on another company's platform.

The five-year-old Snapchat was founded by Evan Speigel, Bobby Murphy and Reggie Brown while they were still students at Stanford Univeristy. Snapchat has now 7 billion video clips every day viewed by its users.

"We are thrilled to be working closely with Snapchat on extending the stories and excitement of the Rio Olympics to their large, dynamic, and socially active audience,” said Gary Zenkel, president of NBC Olympics, in a press release. “And who better to partner with to produce content for that audience than Buzzfeed, perhaps the most creative producers in the social content space."

The companies involved will split any revenue made from advertising against the Olympic highlights. The content will only be available to U.S. Snapchat users. Although Snapchat is the only platform to have the deal at the moment, there are speculations that the content could feature on other platforms as well.
