TechTree Blog: Porn Gets 30% Of Global Internet Traffic

Let's face it, the internet is driven by pornography in a big way, but we had not anticipated that any one particular site will make it well past the rest. XVIDEOS.com, reportedly one of the largest pornographic websites in the world, is currently registering 4.4 billion clicks per month with 350 million unique visitors. Google and Facebook are the only websites that are known to do better. Porn websites receive a whopping 30% of the total internet traffic around the world. The report based its first calculation on the average time duration spent on the website, which was found to be 15 minutes, and assumed that a low-res video was being viewed. This data works out to a huge estimated amount of 29 petabytes of porn per month, or 50 GB per second!

A second calculation with adjustments yielded an estimate of 35 to 40 TB per month. XVIDEOS.com is speculated to stream 1000 GB per second at peak hours, which has been reported as one fifteenth of the total data transfer between New York and London. Runners-ups in the race were other porn sites such as PornHub.com (2.5 billion page views), YouPorn.com (2.1 billion page views), Tube8.com (970 million page views), and LiveJasmin.com (710 million page views). How much is your contribution to this traffic?
