While Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella's open letter to the company's employees mainly dealt with the laying off of 7,800 employees and writing down of about $7.6 billion related to its Nokia business, it also indicated a fresh new strategy and vision which might spark innovation, create new categories and generate opportunity for the Windows ecosystem in the longer term.

Apparently, Microsoft seems to be not shutting down its mobile phone business. Instead, it is working on an integrated unified ecosystem where apps can run across all devices.

Microsoft is hoping to bring this unifying experience on Windows 10 and draw its PC users towards the Microsoft mobile phones which run on the same OS.

Windows 10 boasts a common base on which developers will be able to build apps that work on smartphones, tablets, PCs and desktops, and even Xbox.

Microsoft which currently stands in the third position in the smartphone market in India seems to be working hard on maintaining its market growth in the country and has thus included New Delhi among the 13 cities globally to launch Windows 10 with exclusive celebrations like hands-on opportunities, experimental demos, entertainment and opportunities to meet the windows team.

Other cities to host the special events are Sydney, Tokyo, Singapore, Beijing, Dubai, Nairobi, Berlin, Johannesburg, Madrid, London, Sao Paolo and New York City.

"We've also worked closely with retailers to introduce programs to help people easily upgrade, including Best Buy, Bic Camera, Croma, Currys/PC World, Elkjøp, Jarrir, Incredible Connection, Media Markt, Staples, Wal-Mart, Yamada, Yodobashi and many more leading retailers from around the world," explains a recent blogpost.

Also, Microsoft has been hinting lately about the easy porting facilities available for Android and iOS developers to bring their apps on to the Windows 10 platform, which might prove an important step in the new strategy of the global giant.

It looks like Microsoft's mobile future now depends on Windows 10 which is all set to launch on July 29.

It is also worth noting that Windows 10 will be available as a free upgrade or with new PCs and tablets across 190 countries.
