It is said that imitation is the best form of flattery. Well, we don't know if we can say that for clones of premium games that are available for free for Windows Phone, but we do think that they offer almost the same level of enjoyment. Here is a list that we have found out.

AE Fruit Slash

Paid alternative: Fruit Ninja (Rs 55)

Everybody loves that game where you mindlessly slash fruits tossed across the screen, being wary of the occasional bombs that you should be careful not to slash. Yes, it seems like we are talking about Fruit Ninja, doesn't it? However, there is AE Fruit Slash, that appears eerily similar and it is completely free. There are a few subtle changes though, such as the bomb being replaced by a bundle of dynamite sticks, and the rather blood-curdling scream when you accidentally slash one of those. Other than that, it is just as enjoyable as the paid game.

Zulu Star

Paid alternative: Zuma's Revenge for iPhone (Rs 110)

If you have been a PC user since the past decade, there is a big possibility that you have played the game Zuma or its variants from Popcap Games. The game was later released for iPhone, Android, and even Windows Mobile, but none is yet available for Windows Phone. The same experience is now available on Windows Phone for free, thanks to the game Zulu Star. For those who came in late, this game involves shooting coloured marbles at a train of similar marbles in such a way that you have to eliminate all the marbles in the chain before it reaches the den at the end of the track. This is a really addictive game and certainly a must try.

Pandas vs Ninjas

Paid alternative: Angry Birds (Rs 55)

It is the game that took the world by storm on multiple platforms. Free versions of Angry Birds are available for Android as well as iOS. However, Rovio decided against making it free for the Windows Phone platform. An enterprising developer seems to have noted this grievance of WP mobile owners and decided to bring out Pandas vs Ninjas. You have probably guessed it right that the birds and pigs from the original game have been replaced by pandas and ninjas in this variant. Save for some irritating sounds from the pandas, this free game is just as addictive.

AE Jewels

Paid alternative: Bejeweled LIVE (Rs 260)

Remember Bejeweled for PC, then it came for Android and also for iOS. Well, it also came for Windows Phone, but it costs Rs 260. There is nothing to worry though, because AE Jewels provides a freeware alternative that delivers more or less similar experience. While the animations are not as polished as the original, the very similar gameplay makes you forget the shortcomings as you get engrossed eliminating as many jewels as you can in a race against time.

Bomberman vs Zombies

Paid alternative: Bomberman Arcade (Rs 110)

Here's a console classic that has also made to application stores for mobiles and tablets. Bomberman, the strategic, maze-based video game that first appeared in 1983, has been one of the most memorable and successful franchise with several variants on different platforms. Incidentally, Windows Phone has Bomberman Arcade that is the exact same game, but priced at Rs 110. For those who want to play Bomberman, but don't want to pay up, there is Bomberman vs Zombies. This free variant of the popular game replaces the enemies with zombies. These zombies are smart with AI and there are three types with different speeds and you must avoid coming in contact with them. Thus, you have to blow up the zombies and make it to the exit to progress to the next level.
