Review: Moto E4 Plus

The Moto E4 Plus was first released in the Indian market in June 2017 and ever since then, there has been a lot of talk about this phone. The attractive design, stable hardware, massive battery at an even better price point of this Moto E4 Plus might be some of reasons you are considering purchasing this phone.

Is it all just a hype? Or is there some truth in its greatness? Well you can make up your mind with this detailed review covering everything there is to know about it.

Design and Appearance

Unlike the previous Motorola phones that had a plastic body, this time around the company has included a metal body which has given it a fair chance to stand in the Indian market which is flooded by many attractive smart phones with strong metal bodies.

However, it’s quite heavier than its other competitions.  The phone does feel sturdy in terms of the design and built. But one cannot complain since the USP of this phone is its battery life and there is a massive battery packed inside the thick body.

The size of this phone is length - 155 x breadth - 77.5 x thickness - 9.55 mm, which makes it quite bulky. That being said, it’s still manageable and proves to be quite comfortable for one hand operations.

Even though the design of this phone is sleek and the beautiful colour variants iron gray and fine gold adds to its appearance, giving it a premium look, it still isn’t the best looking phone available in the market.

Key specifications

The phone has a 5.5 inch screen with a 720 HD display and a screen resolution of 720x1280 pixels. However, due to this low screen resolution, the images don’t appear to be that great.  This phone comes with the latest android version i.e. Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Hopefully, they will also be consistent with the android updates.

It has a 3GB RAM and a 64 -Bit Media Tek MT 6737 Quadcore processor. But still this phone cannot be considered as a gaming device as high end games won’t run very smooth, as the performance can be quite distorted at times. The phone comes with a 32 GB storage which is expandable up to 128 GB.

Its connectivity features include GPS, FM, USB, Bluetooth v4.2, Wifi, headphones and is compatible with 4G.

It includes sensors such as accelerometer, compass, proximity sensors, ambient light sensor, and a front mounted fingerprint sensor.

Camera

This phone comes with a 13 megapixel(f/2.0), primary camera which has features like auto focus and LED flash  and  a 5 megapixel secondary camera (f/2.2) with 1.4 pixel size and an LED flash. The focusing speed is quite fast. The camera app interface is quite easy to use as it’s laid out with very minimal options. You can even turn the camera on and off, by twisting the phone twice.  It’s quite commendable that at such a low price point, they have been able to include HDR in the device. Still, the camera in this phone is average.

Here are some Features that make Moto E4 Plus stand out among the other phones at similar price points!

  • The jewel on this phone is its massive 5000 mAh battery
  • Even though it doesn’t come with the fast charging technology, and takes up to 3hrs to completely charge the phone it gives you a battery backup of up to two days which is all worth it
  • Home screen rotation feature is quite unique as well.
  • Another unique feature has to do with the flashlight in this phone; you can turn the flash-light on and off simply buy shaking the phone twice.
  • Some extra features in this phone can be found in the Moto app like the gesture mode, one handed mode, blue light filter for night time viewing, etc.

So is it worth buying it?

This phone is priced at around Rs 9999 in the market which makes this phone seem even more attractive and hence tops the list of Best Smartphone Under 10000 in India. It also comes with a screen protected with gorilla glass 3 which seems great given the price point. But its average performance is quite hard to ignore.

If you are looking for a phone that gives you basic connectivity, a great battery life and average features, then you can go for this phone. If you want a phone with a good brand name, big display screen and a Dolby ATMOS sound then this phone is your holy grail.

However if you are looking for some extraordinary features or you are a heavy gamer then you should definitely look elsewhere. All and all, it’s a great budget phone and is definitely worth all the stir that it has caused in the Indian market!
