This move would help Gujarat ISPs to reduce bandwidth expenses.

The National Internet Exchange of India (Nixi) has set up its new hub in Ahmedabad. This move would help Gujarat ISPs to reduce bandwidth expenses. The communication and IT ministry had given an approval to the Nixi to set up its hub in the city earlier.

This is the seventh Indian city to have such an exchange hub. Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore are some of other cities, where the central government has already approved such hubs.

Setting up Nixi hubs in these cities would help restrict the wastage of bandwidth in local traffic and save precious foreign exchange, which is very important in these times of global economic turmoil, when the dollar prices are skyrocketing against the rupee.

Nixi commenced operations from GNFC Info Tower in this city from Friday. It will be helped in its operations by the state science and technology department according to government official.
