Microsoft will utilize the GFW platform to distribute Full PC games in the near future.

Chris Early, Games for Windows Live general manager has confirmed that Microsoft will utilize the GFW platform to distribute Full PC games in the near future. They have already released an update for GFW with interface improvements. Yet another update to be released within the next three weeks, will add support for video, demos and DLC downloads through a marketplace applications.

Valve has been distributing games using Steam, for years and Microsoft's GFW will be in direct competition. While Steam doesn't allow developers to charge for DLC, Microsoft may do that to get an edge over their competitor.

They will do this by offering exclusive priced DLCs through GFW. Some games, such as Fallout 3 can be downloaded from Steam as well as GFW, but in case the developer wants to make money off DLCs, he will have to go the GFW way.

When asked if Microsoft will develop their own DRM system for GFW, Chris Early said, "When we get to the place where we do distribute games digitally, will we have a digital rights management system? Maybe. Or maybe we'll just continue to support the industry leaders in that. Because it is a hard thing to do."
