TDSAT Wants Zee on Tata Sky

According to reports, the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) has ordered Zee-Turner to provide its signals to Tata Sky, a DTH 80:20 joint venture (JV) between the Tata Group and Star TV. Ironically, Zee-Turner, which distributes Zee and other channels, is a JV between the Zee Group and Turner International.
In a ruling, Justice Arun Kumar, chairman, TDSAT, has directed Zee to supply all 32 channels from its bouquet to Tata Sky within 48 hours. Tata Sky, in turn, has agreed to pay the subscription fee of Rs 75 that is demanded by Zee for its bouquet in entirety.
With this development, the number of channels offered by Tata Sky will increase to around 107 from the existing 75 channels.
The announcement does however spell good news for consumers, as initially, they will not have to pay an extra amount for these additional channels. Tata Sky has said that for the time being, the company will continue to charge the existing subscription of Rs 199 per month.
Dish TV too, will continue to maintain its DTH price of Rs 125 to Rs 350 per month, for the next one year.
Tata Sky had earlier filed a plea, in which the company said it is suffering a daily loss to the tune of Rs 2 crores because of unavailability of the Zee channels.
And, earlier this year, TDSAT had directed Star TV to provide its 14 channels to Zee s DTH platform, Dish TV, at a subscriber fee of Rs 27 per month.

TATA Sky should try to provide all Malayalam channels ie. Jeevan, Shalom, Manorama News etc. as the population of Malayalees out side Kerala/India is more compared to the people from other states.

Tata Sky and Dish TV is nothing without Asianet, Amrita TV, Surya TV, Kairali TV, DD Malayalam, Jeevan TV, Kiran TV, Bharath TV, JaiHind TV, Shalom TV, Rosebowl, Asianet Plus, Asianet News, Kairali-WE, Kairali-People, Indiavision-Yes Please include all these Malayalam Channels for the Malayalee people.

All DTH providers should now concentrate on broadband. Now all phe players are seems to ve equal no of channels. Who so ever gives other than TV channels will survive . Please post comments if anyone do ve idea or latest development.

BROADBAND IS THE NEED OF THE HOUR for very Home PC user. Since information and Education is possible through Net, entertainment will now be regulated in every home. An average Hindu family watches 1 regular channel and at best 2 to 3 optional channels of TV entertainment. The days have gone when teenagers are found with MTV/Other such provoking channels being watched in the closed doors. youth has been realising how to utilise their time in the best possible way. With money making/earning possible through internet, people will restrict and regulate usage of DTH less for entertainment and more for I-net for information and earningg. Soon we will find this change in almost every Home PC user's homes.

Sushanti, you've got a very narrow perspective on things. Claiming MTV or other similar channels are provocative is to make a completely moronic statement to say the least! At least these channels show the latest global trends and they are about international music. Music, that is something that transcends all boundaries - physical as well as spatial. So what may be "provocative" to you, might well be appealing to your children. On the other hand, I find channels like Zee TV and Star TV to be highly provocative and at the same time demeaning to Indians in general. They spew out their banal serials and hackneyed plots day after day and the Indian public has no other choice than to watch this useless tripe on TV. This is leading to dampening of the Indian intellect. On your other claim, that Internet is going to rule the roost and DTH is not going to be used to watch TV, I would say that it is possible only if ITV (internet TV) becomes a reality. However many oppurtunities for work open up via the internet, they will never be able to take the place of entertainment in a person's life. And TV, at least with the current generation, is the biggest source of entertainment. As long as other better forms of entertainment are not made available to the public (i.e. they should exist and be cost effective at the same time), TV will continue to play a major role in DTH usage patterns.

The future will dominated by interactive media. Focus should be on broadband. The initial popularity for tv channels has come down. The Net users are increasing. Competetiveness is also reason behind people surfing internet more than watching tv. No one can afford to sit infornt tv and waste time in this age. Craze we had for channels has now disappeared. As the present younger generation grows older, internet poularity will rise and tv viewing will go down. So, its better for us if companies focus on broadband - this will increase the bandwidth and decrease the charges.
