There are giants like Norton and MacAfee who are involved in providing dedicated network security to all those who need it the most. The average home user would say, I want something that's simple, efficient and for free! This gives birth to the concept of free anti-virus software. These freewares are meant to give the user all the basic protection they need to protect their PCs from virus attacks. The eScan Antivirus Tool kit utility from Microworld is such software, which promises to give basic protection against virus attacks.
Features and performance
The eScan Antivirus tool kit scans your hard drive for viruses and worms; on detection it promptly repairs the affected area. Other than the hard drive, the utility also informs the user about the viruses and other illegal dialers and processes running in the memory. This tool also cleans your registry and other system areas of the damage that a virus could have done. The interface is very simple and perhaps too basic; it lacks the "feel good" factor. Personally speaking, the interface has become a vital part of any software and any negligence towards the interface is unforgivable.
The scanning process is fast and while doing its job, it does inform the user about the exact location of the scan and give complete file details. There is no support for email scan in this free utility, the paid version, however, supports email scan. There isn't a virus protection shield, meaning there is no provision for live detection of viruses. So if you get a virus sitting pretty in your mailbox or the outlook express, rest assured it won't be detected. If a virus is trying to creep inside your machine, while you are online, it will again go unnoticed. Basically the software does not protect your computer; it detects the virus after it's made an entry in your machine. This software is way behind my favourite free anti-virus software i.e. the AVG anti-virus software. The AVG anti-virus does offer mail-scan and the protection shield feature as a standard part of the free package.
Conclusion
The small size of download, the simple interface and fast virus scanning is a big plus for anyone looking for a quick scan. No support for email scan and absence of shield protection is a big draw back. With anti-virus tools offering more features for free, this software is certainly lacking in many departments. I would conveniently give this one a skip, so unless you fall in love with the name "eScan" I don't see any other reason to download this one. Till then, happy virus hunting!

Its better to try AVG 6.0 personel antivirus which is available free to download from www.grisoft.com, definitely a better choice as compared to escan..

kespersky is no 1 but some usb virus gets unnoticed in it. nortan and sementics are virus themselves when you removes them ( now nortan came up with a """uninstalling tool" so more big fat downloads)) mcafree is nice but it try to get connected automatically for update avira is very good in detecting usb viruses

for all those seeking anti virus...best one is kespersky(it hav the largest database of virus bcoz it updates it from other antivirus database .) 2. bitdefender 3.mcafree never go for sementics or norton they are a virus itself( try uninstalling them) avg although free can be tried but it doesnt offer much protection ( u can find them in all cyber cafe =with infection) Node 32 -- my frnd use it ( he even dont hav a internet and is happy ttracking virus in vcd and dvd of movies ) try it if u wanna hav fun ... AVAST i dont know what is so good abt it when ther are so many good product alread present so we are remain with two 1. kasperaky 2. bitdefender if u wanna test then try ther trial version!! 30 days

eSAN SUCKS, LIKE EVERY FREE SCANNER. I COULDNT UNINSTALL ESCAN FROM MY SYSTEM AND I COULDNT CONNECT MORE TO THE INTERNET AFTER I HAVE UNINSTALLED ESCAN FROM THE ADD/ REMOVE PROGRAMS AND MY CPU EXTENT OF UTILIZATION WAS ALL THE TIME AT 100%, I COULDNT USE MORE MY PC; EVERYTHING WAS SO SLOW. eSCAN IS MORE WORSE THAN A VIRUS. I DONT RECOMMEND THIS SHIT. LUCKILY I USED AN INSTALLATION LOGGER AND I HAD A WORKING SYSTEM BACKUP, THAT WAS THE ONLY WAY TO GET RID OF THE eSCAN SHIT.

I still think eScan is one of the best antivirus but now it's free scanner cannot clean your PC! That feature has been disables. I am currently using Panda's onlin free antivirus scan.

Ofcourse it is free but All escan products violate almost 80 % donts given by the Microsoft Corporation. If you are sensible enough you will get the meaning of donts. In simple terms this product will be in trouble if Microsoft objects.

For me eScan is THE BEST! It updates 3 or 4 times a day and as you can see in its report mainly they are trojans/backdoors. It run smooth in my Win98 system and it runs perfect in my WinXP too! Have tried Norton Corporate Edition at work but it SUCKS! We (at a major airline) suffered from infections up to 5 times a year! my PC was OK with eScan. Believe me when I say that this product is the best. Also have tried AVG and it detects some viruses and trojans but cannot eliminate them and is annoying because in the middle of something you are doing a pop up windows arises telling you that some virus is present in your system but when you choose the "repair" option it agrees but after one or two days the system seems to be reinfected again... it seems that AVG is not doing a good job.

Alex, you can try the trial of the paid version of eScan. Update it, run a full system scan. If you find a virus/trojan/adware (80% of the people who installed eScan found out that they had a trojan which their previous AV did not detect from my experience), then you'll see which is more secure. Just try it!

I dislike eScan. I am positive that there is a virus on my computer because it disabled my antivirus program that I purchase through my internet provider. So I decided to Download a free virus scanner to get rid of the virus and eScan did not detect any viruses. And to top it off I can't seem to uninstall it off of my computer. I would not recommend this software.

This is not possible. MicroWorld's eScan uses the world's most powerful engine i.e Kaspersky Anti-Virus engine for virus scanning. There is no way anything can get past eScan. Especially if it's a Trojan. If a virus is not detected by Kaspersky, eScan or McAfee, NOTHING WILL DETECT THAT VIRUS. If a trojan is not detected by eScan/Kaspersky, then almost nothing will. And yes, if you use Kaspersky Anti-Virus, running this utility will disable the monitor TEMPORARILY.

eScan is a great product. I have tried it personally and since i installed it i do not have any problem with viruses any more. the updates are spontaneous as soon as you connect to the internet and the features it has to offer are simply amazing. i would recomend those who have virus problems to try this product and i am sure they would be happy with this product .Also they have many versions of escan available and for those people who have SMTP and POP# services running on their machines they should try out Mailscan as well.. Better One Go in for the free AVG 6.0. its light on sys resources and can detect any damm virus & trojans. day i first installed & scan it gave me 20 viruses & trojan horses. Really great & above All Its FREE!!!!!!!!

Currently I have 10 viruses that infect my PC and are yet to be removed so I would like to try this software if it can do some good thing for me. I use spyware bouncer virus software to detect these viruses but not the full version to do the task. I would appreciate this one if I can download it.

Dear Sir, I have used escan and have saved a lot of money investing in paid package. For me, it is good because it is FREE. And I can do without high-end features, since I am a home user. I compared eScan to other freebies like AVG, but I have found that although AVG has slightl better features, eScan does measure up to mark. Congrats for Indian company to have brought this out.

Hello to escan antivirus group, first of all i like to give you a hertly congratulation. i have a pc ,and i am searching of some antivirus which is available to us free.since we are student so it is hard to buy a antivirus. Every week you upload a new Removal Tool from Symantec (last week it was the Sobig.f removal tool, this week it is the Swen removal tool... etc.). Have you ever wondered what if a user is infected with multiple worms & worms for which there isn't any removal tool produced by Symantec??? What will the user do in that case? The freeware toolkit utility produced and distributed by MicroWorld is all about a single core which has thousands of "removal tools" built inside so that users need not keep downloading "separate" tools for every worm!!! It has generic disinfection routines and routines which keep getting updated "daily" to ensure that if a new worm introduces a new technique to corrupt registry, the tool is instantaneously updated to (a) Remove the worm (b) reverse the damages done to the registry by this worm. All of the above put together is not given even by any "paid" antivirus and also by the "free" AVG series software packages.
