Zotac GTX260 (216 shaders)

Zotac GTX260 (216 shaders)

We take the new shader-pumped GTX 260 from Zotac for a spin.

Good cooler, 3-way SLI support, Low power consumption, Runs cool.

Similar performance to an OC'd GTX 260, Expensive.

The new and improved Geforce GTX 260 is here and as usual Zotac is the first to bring us a sample for review. First of all, this is not a brand new product by any means but is Nvidia's new way of attracting some of its lost followers.

The only change in the new GTX 260 is the increased number of stream processors from the previous 192 to the new 216. The rest has remained exactly the same including the core speeds and the memory speeds.

One thing is sure, the performance will improve thanks to the increased number of shaders. Therefore all that matters is by how much the performance increases and the card's price. This card will compete directly with ATI's HD4870, although it may be priced slightly higher.

Specification

These are the two models that Zotac offers, a standard edition and their Amp edition. We got the standard edition that features the stock clocks, where as the Amp edition features slightly higher clocks, which should not be a problem to achieve with a simple overclock. Once again you can see that it is virtually identical to the older GTX260 except for the shaders.

The funny thing is that Nvidia hasn't officially given any name for the new GTX 260, so its up to the board partners to distinguish them from the older model. Zotac has chosen to go with the square notation to represent the new card, which seems to work.

Bundle

The bundle is the standard from Zotac and features the following:

-Instruction manual

-Driver CD

-DVI to HDMI adapter

- S-Video break out dongle

-GRID - full game DVD

- Case badge
