AMD/ATI seems to have woken up NVIDIA from their long slumber since their launch of the GeForce 8xxx series graphics cards. It almost seems like they have their production plant on autopilot mode or something with the software automatically bumping up the clocks of existing cards and then calling it the "next generation" graphics card.

Even the recently launched 9800GT and the 9800GTX+ is nothing more than a rebadged 8800GT and a die-shrunk 9800GTX. Along with that NVIDIA also released a new budget card, which is supposed to replace their 8500GT.

Introducing the Zotac 9500GT, which comes with 512MB of GDDR3 memory running on a 128-bit memory bus. The performance of this card is supposed to even rival the 8600GT. Given the performance of the previous two 9-series cards that we tested, it's really hard to take NVIDIA's word for it. So we'll do the dirty work so you guys have a clear picture of what to expect when you buy it.

Specifications

To start off, the 9500GT is powered by a new variant of the G92 core, which is the G96. This is also NVIDIA's first 55nm mainstream chip running at a speed of 550MHz on the core, while the memory runs at 800MHz (1600MHz effective).

There are many different flavors of this card and the Zotac card comes with 512MB of GDDR3 memory. DDR2 variants will also be launched for a low price in the future. Since this is fabricated using the 55nm process, the maximum power draw is just 50W according to NVIDIA, so even a 350W power supply should be enough.

The memory bus has been cut down to 128 bit from 256 since this is a mainstream card. Even though this card is replacing the 8500GT, its specifications even rival the 8600GT, so theoretically it should be faster than it.

there seems to be a big blunder...the review mentions support for Hybrid SLI... while the nVidia website doesnt cover it under the hybrid SLI category....this almost spoiled my rig....this is highly irresposible
