Yamaha’s latest drive includes new recording technologies, but is it really worth the price?

DiskT@2 technology, Advanced Audio Master Quality Recording, CD-MRW, 8MB buffer

Expensive

The latest offering from Yamaha is an internal 44x24x44x drive. Yamaha knows its competition and has opted to provide newer technologies, instead of a marginal increase in speed, to get ahead in the race.

The drive isn’t much to look at, with a blue light instead of the usual yellow and red ones. The writer uses the CLV method to write CD-Rs at 44x. It supports the CD-MRW packet-writing format that lets you use your rewritable like a floppy disk. The writer also features a huge buffer of 8MB and has a one-year warranty.

As if this wasn’t enough, it has something called DiskT@2 (pronounced "Disk Tattoo"). DiskT@2 is a procedure where the writing laser is used to burn pictures on the recordable side of the CD. It uses a 0.1mm pattern to draw graphics that are roughly the equivalent of a 250 Dpi 128 greyscale image.
Usually, a laser burns data on a CD using 0.001mm patterns. If the writer drew graphics using this small pattern width, they would be invisible to the naked eye! Check it out:

The CRW-F1 also includes the Advanced Audio Master Quality Recording, where the CD is recorded in a way similar to gold audio masters. In this method, instead of writing the regular way, the writer leaves more space between the data channels on the CD media. This results in more accurate reading of your media. Also, the firmware of this writer can be upgraded so your writer will always receive some tweaks directly from the company, and maybe newer features as well.

This drive is slower than the Liteon 32x CD-Writer. The Nero CD Speed test showed some good results, like a low CPU usage and a decent average as well as maximum time. However, the write speeds are still better in other writers:

Also, it is overpriced at Rs. 18,000. If a regular CD-Writer is what you are looking for, read our . We have been notified that the revised price of this product is now Rs. 9900/-.

Cool technology, but that \"four times high\" price is a little too much to pay for a \"gimmic\" like T@2.
