XFX GeForce 8800GT Alpha Dog Edition

XFX GeForce 8800GT Alpha Dog Edition

Sudeep Naik, Dec 31, 2007 1600 hrs IST

We've got a pumped up version of the 8800GT in this Alpha Dog Edition card from XFX. Let's see if this one can bite.

Single Slot, Factory Overclocked, Great performance, Silent operation.

Doesn't overclock further, Bit Expensive.

The G92-based Nvidia GeForce 8800GT has already received more than its fair share of attention, largely due to the fact that it gives around 80% performance of an 8800 GTX for less than half the price. Last time, we got a stock engineering sample from Nvidia but this time, we've got a pumped up version of the same in the XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog Edition card.

For this review, we've put the Alpha Dog through hell and high water. Can it really catch up with the big boys, or is it just all bark and no bite? Read on, my friend.

Specifications

We've already written a lot about the G92 and it's capabilities in our review of the Nvidia 8800GT and the Alpha Dog is, as we said earlier, a pumped up version of the same. To put it simply, it's just clocked higher than the stock settings for the 8800GT. Check the table below for comparison.

u lame idiots. even n00bs know that both xfx and evga suck. buy cards from bfg (US), asus, msi, gainward and gigabyte.

Nope, Palit is the best!!! Just kidding... Whichever costs less and gives more FPS is the best ;-)

XFX is not the best. Got 5 cards replaced in 6 months. Will the BEST company give such WORST performance?

ha ! you know what you are saying......google for some benchmarks and you will now which is better

by sam9s, New Delhi, on Jan 02, 2008 06:03 AM, Report abuse

Dude, he is talking of the 8800 GTS 512 MB, which is a better card than this. Here in India we get the MSI 8800 GTS 512 MB OC for 20,500. This is a much better card than this XFX card.
