XFX 9800GX2

XFX 9800GX2

XFX's top-dog battles it out in a fight to the finish. Who will be left standing when the dust settles?

Performance, Good bundle, Solid build quality.

Heats up quickly, Expensive.

The Nvidia 9800 GX2 is currently the reigning champ in the graphics card arena and today we have the XFX 9800 GX2 in our labs for testing. The last GX2 was from Asus and quite frankly it did not perform as well as the Zotac 9800 GX2, even though they were clocked at the same speed. The XFX card also runs at the same speed, so I'm really anxious to see what kind of performance it is capable of. There are around 8 different versions of the GX2 on the XFX website, and we'll be testing the Standard Edition today.
So, without wasting any more time, let's dive into the good stuff.

The Box

The front of the box

I've always liked the design of XFX's packaging style (remember the infamous 'X' shaped boxes that they had for the previous gen cards?). This time around the box has a more hardcore mechanic look. The entire box is black with a mechanical '9' displayed in the center and the name of the card in gold lettering. On the lower right we have the primary features of the card displayed and also a photo of the bundled game (this time it's Company of Heroes). The back of the box has a picture of the card along with some of its capabilities. When you go into the store this is surely going to grab your attention.

jesus christ.... this review is nothing but a reedited copy after reading a 100 reviews..... listen you really wanna review the card.... ? drop me an email..... you start of by reviewing the raw performance.... review the overclocked stats after that. don't just post game comparisons like that.... run 3dsmax 9 on top of it with 15000 hair and find the viewport lag.... if a machine has got the raw power , one can always expect better and more optimized software around the corner.... and by raw power i dont mean comparison stats like core clock, shader clock, blah blah.... force some settings on simple programs.... run a 3d mark 06 score..... give people an update about drivers and how are they optimized.....? how well does the gpu itself gel with multicore processors with lotsa cache.....? sheesh gimme the next card (GTX 280 )on a weekend ill review it 10 times more efficiently and ill do it free of cost........ damn right its a challenge..... is Techtree game enough...?

TT is so biased to Geforce/Nvidia stuff! AMD-ATI may not be near to the recent NVidia Cards, but definitely beats them in a Price+Performance Range! I just got the new Gigabyte RS780 Chipset Motherboard! It just rocks.. I have been playing every new "Hi-fi" game that one think of! AMD-ATI truly rules in many ways..

Hi, who agrees that the picture quality, colour richness is rendered better by ATI cards than nvidia cards.

hi every one 980gx2 is obsolute model now its end of life pls dont buy now buy the 2nd generation cards available with big byte corporation GTX260 AND GTX 280 NVIDIA BASED CARDS cheaper then 9800gx2 series.BIG GRAPHIC CARDS ARE ALWAYS THE BEST IN PERFORMANCE

The Geforce 200GTX series is being out performed by Radeon HD 4000 series. I would rather go with Radeon HD 4850 CrossFire.

the 200 series was launched a tad early probably and doesnt have optimized drivers as of yet.... i got one for my office and was building a linux driver for it .... the driver available on the website leaves almost 30% of the core transistors unused ... power connsumption could be an issue but i think its mostly early driver days.... wait a few of the beta drivers to mature and well see

Why in the blue hell are you reviewing the 9800GX2 one million times? Go get a 4800 series card and review that.
