XFX 9600GT XXX Edition

XFX 9600GT XXX Edition

The XFX 9600GT XXX Edition is one of the best 9600GTs we've tested so far but it's too steeply priced

Single slot, Bundle, Performance.

Doesn't overclock further, Expensive.

The Card

Contrary to factory-overclocked cards from other manufacturers, the XFX 9600GT XXX edition has a single slot design; in fact, it's similar to Nvidia's reference design for the 9600GT.

It supports PCI-E 2.0 and requires extra power via a PCI-e connector, and sports a dual DVI-D port (each capable of supporting a display resolution of 2560x1600 pixels) and an S-Video port at the back. As with other 9-series cards, you can use the bundled DVI-D to HDMI connector and the SPDIF cable, to watch HD content straight off the card.

Also incorporated is Nvidia PureVideo HD technology, which delivers superior picture quality and smooth movies with 100% (rated) offload of H.264 video decoding from the CPU -- and significantly reduces power consumption. Additional features include full DX10 support as well as support for GigaThread technology, Nvidia's Lumenex engine, Quantum Effects technology, OpenGL 2.0, Bad Edit Correction, and Inverse telecine (3:2 & 2:2 pulldown correction), among others.

The XFX 9600GT XXX edition card has a 128-bit memory bus and uses 512 MB of DDR3 RAM. It is clocked at 700/2000 MHz (Core/Memory) with Shaders running at 1750 MHz whereas the reference 9600GT runs at 650/1800 MHz (Core/Memory) with shaders running at 1625 Mhz. Overall, the Core and Memory are clocked 7.6% and 11.1% higher, respectively. As for shaders, they run about 7.5% faster than the stock 9600GTs'.

Overall, the specifications for the XFX 9600GT XXX edition card suggest that it should beat the rival 9600GTs.

Well there is a mistake in review. The reviewed card has 256Bit memory interface not 128-Bit. 9600GT came in 256-bit and none of the 9600GT is 128-Bit!

Though it may perform better than other 9600GTs its better to get an 8800GT by spending a couple more grands. 8800gt totally owns the 9600gt

Now that 9600GT Cards with standard clock of 650 MHz. are down to $ 120 ( Rs. 5k) and over clocked 700MHz.versions down to $ 140 ( Rs 5.7k) XFX has absolutely no justification in pricing these cards for us Indians at 200 percent the international price!! Somebody has to protest against this cartel of loot.

"It does make sense to go in for the 9600GT rather than an 8800GT simply because the 9600GT is a newer card, and will have a few more driver updates that can further boost its current performance. And although the 8800GT is a powerful, it won't have as much resale value as the 9600GT a few months down the line. Also, the current crop of 9600GTs with the current drivers almost matches the performance of some of the 8800GTs, which, again, gets me to the driver updates part." B*****it. 8800GT has the raw performance edge along with some serious shader power that 9600GT lacks. At Rs 9,500 GT is fine but at Rs 11,000 it's a complete waste of money. With a couple of hundred Rs more 8800GT can be bought and it will serve longer due the shading power it packs. In future games are going to be even more shader-intensive and then 9600GT will tank.
