Performance drives are not just for desktops, this WD Scorpio joins the race.
Fast, silent, runs cool.
Expensive.
When we think about performance drives, we invariably tend to think about hard drives such as the WD VelociRaptor or at least some desktop hard drive, but never a laptop hard drive. Laptop hard drives have traditionally been modest on the performance front. Even though most drives sport the latest SATA II interface, they still lag behind their desktop counterparts by a large margin due to the one thing that plays a major part in the performance - the rotations per minute or the spindle speed. Traditionally, laptop hard drives have been spinning at a maximum of 5,400 RPM, and this lower speed is essential for devices such as laptops to conserve power and enhance the battery life. But, now we have with us the newest performance drive for laptops from Western Digital - the Scorpio WD3200BEKT, which spins at 7,200 RPM, which is the same as desktop hard drives, yet claims to consume the same amount of power as its slower brethren. We shall try to find out if this 320 GB 2.5-inch small wonder can manage to pose a serious challenge to its 3.5-inch siblings.

recently i have replaced my laptop hard drive that was hitachi, replaced by WD Scorpio 160GB, and the performance nearly doubled. this hdd is that amazing performer. no ticking noise at all.
