SilkStream is a WD proprietary technology that is optimized for smooth, contiguous digital video playback of up to 12 simultaneous HD streams (assuming Host Transfer Block size of 2 MB per stream). It's compatible with the ATA streaming command set allowing CE customers to use standard streaming management and error recovery options.
i totally agree that this drive might be good and offer goos read write speeds..but being practical..aa normal basic user ..why to spend more to get this one...when we can get it a lesser price..... but i think it shud have been 10,000 rpm...i mean if its expensive and it shud offer more good specifications,,,...

their 10K r.p.m drives are way overpriced and noisy too. You can put two cheaper and quieter 500GB HDDs in RAID and get both speed and capacity.
