If you thought that a LCD monitor is gonna burn big hole in your pocket, here's something that'll definitely suit your needs and budget for sure. Viewsonic's latest release, the VA1926w is a Value series member that promises good performance at an affordable price. The fact that it's a 19-incher makes it even more tempting. Check it out.
The Monitor
Covered in a black and silver matte-finish body, the VA1926w houses a 19-inch anti-glare WSXGA LCD panel that supports a maximum resolution of 1440x900 pixels. Standing on a robust plastic base, the monitor is 18-inches tall and is just 2.4-inches thick. The base can tilt up to 20 degrees for viewing angle adjustment.
On the monitor, there are 2 buttons placed on either sides of the power button.
The VA1926w's screen has a 5 ms response time and contrast ratios of 700:1 (static) and 2000:1 (dynamic). The brightness is 300 cd/m2 and the light source is rated to last for 50,000 hours.
The screen has a viewing angle of 160 degrees horizontally and vertically.
Unlike most value series (read entry level) monitors from other brands, the VA1926w has both, a DVI and a D-Sub (VGA) port for input.
Bundle
Apart from the monitor, the following items are included in the bundle with the VA1926w LCD monitor:
1 VGA Cable
Power Cord
Drivers Disc and Printed Manual
Too bad the monitor doesn't come with a bundled DVI-D cable. Maybe that's one measure of keeping the cost down. If you ask me, that's not the smartest way of doing it as this monitor performs noticeably better on a DVI-D input.
Can anybody using a 17" LCD please check and tell whether the aspect ratio is proper at 1024x768 resolution. A Samsung 740N that we recently bought is displaying square figures as rectangles & circles as ellipticals. Text is very bad at top & bottom edges. There is no v-size & h-size adjustments available. Local Samsung guys are telling us to use the 1200x1024 resolution, (which works fine) but since we do webpage designs we need to stick to the current standard resolution size that the world is using. At higher res the pages look very much wierd. Can anybody help please?

You have no option, but to sell off the monitor and either go for a 15" LCD or a CRT monitor. It is a common problem that an LCD monitor screens go bad whenever one strays from the standard resolution.
Samsung must have told you to use 1280 x 1024 (not 1200 x 1024). The native resolution of almost every entry level 17" LCD is 1280 x 1024... Therefore the aspect ratio is 1.25 or 5/4. The most common aspect ratio is 1.33 or 4/3 which you can get from resolutions like 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 960.
I'd second Brendon that you'd have to go for a 15" LCD or a 17" CRT Monitor if you want 1024 x 768 resolution.
Viewsonic after sale service is very very very BAD... I hope so that These Viewsonic guys do somthing to Improve their Service, i have made calls all INDIA to almost all Viewsonic Centers and people, they Don't Answer calls at all even if they answer the call Nothing ever happens from their end...
For all Those who already have Viewsonic... I really pray to GOD ur that Viewsonic products never go BAD otherwise u guys will b doomed forever like me...
