Of late, the demand for flash-based MP3 players has increased tremendously, especially with the prices coming down to acceptable levels. And while the best players from iPod and iRiver still cost a bomb, brands like Transcend have stepped in to provide quality comparable to the iPod and iRiver, but at a fraction of the cost.

We received the 256 MB version of the Transcend JetFlashM player (model no. TS256MJF-MP3), which is a downgrade of the previous Transcend MP3 player (model no. TS256MJF-MP3) that we reviewed a couple of weeks ago. Apart from being an MP3 player it also acts as a thumb drive. The player does not feature a LCD screen and FM tuner. While the axed LCD screen does reduce the cost, I don't think including an FM tuner would significantly increase the cost.

This player also comes with 128 MB capacity for those who find 256 MB too much. A 128 MB MP3 player is quite capable of holding two hours of music and suited for those who are ready to spend time deleting old songs every time they want to put in new songs.

Measuring 98 x 31 x 18 (L x W x H) and weighing exactly 25g, this player follows its elder brother's footsteps in terms of being lightweight. It sports two silver buttons and three LEDs on its front panel, while there are two knobs on the upper side of the player. Each of these buttons has multiple functions. It is easy to use and even a novice can start listening to it right away without referring to the manual. The player also comes with an extendable USB cable, driver CD, two AAA Duracell batteries and a manual. It comes with a neck hanging support earphones on which the player can be attached and left hanging around your neck. Now let's go through the specifications of the player.

- Up to 12 hours of Voice Recording with 256 MB memory
- Driverless (Only Windows 98SE needs the bundled driver)

We played a few test tracks to test the sound quality of the player. The sound, though not crystal clear, it was decent enough. The Mids and the Highs sounded very nice. But where the player really rocks is with the lows. This is one of the best players that can play the lows very nicely. The thump sounded like a thump. This player is very good for playing music genres like club, rock, etc., which have a lot of beats. The only disappointment is the lack of equalizer support, which some may consider very important, while buying an MP3 player. Other than that, it is a very good sounding MP3 player; better than the onslaught of never heard of before brand named MP3 players.

The rated battery life is 20 hours on a single AAA alkaline battery, but it exceeds the specifications. We played it for over 25 hours and it showed no signs of low battery. This is a very good option for travelers. Other than being just an MP3 Player, it is can also be used as an USB thumb drive. It clocked an average read speed of 3.5 MBps and average write speed of 2.1 MBps.

The Transcend JetFlashM 256 MB player comes for Rs. 3,600/- with a two-year warranty. At that price, it is one of the best priced MP3 players in the market delivering a very good performance. The only place where the player lost points on is the lack of an FM tuner.

We have purchase 5 pendrive of 512 MB out of which 2 pendrive corrupted.serial no.147167-3586/87/88/89/90(kk141006).there is no replacement because of number not there in pendrive.The number vanish within 2-3 weeks.so who is resposible for that ?henceforth don't take transcend Jet Flash pendrive.Many other pendrive company are there who gives replacement immediatly,take from them.

I had purchased a 1GB flash drive from bangalore retailer however its not getting detected on any PC at present. Contact the transcend Support over email-they informed me to conact retailer, contacted retailer howver they informed that it cannot be repaired or replaced. The flash has a LIFETIME Warranty on the box cover and on the warranty card. Pathetic service.

I've bought my Transcend T-Sonic 520 1GB which has been launched very recently, it is awesome and the sound quality is awesome especially when you plug in with sony or aiwa haedphone let me tell you guys even the Ipod users were amazed with the sound and the funtionality could go upto 10/10 FM. FM Recording, Voice Recording, Line recording, Lyrices display, 7 EQ Presets in addition to the custom EQ and lastly but not the least it could store any type of files for data transfer. It's Amazing and I' don't see any reason why Techtree guys have not given any reviews regarding this product. Techtree Leaves, Can we please have an MP3 player buyer guide. I find it hard to believe that memory based MP3 players are still priced higher than portable CD players and Tape walkmans. And it isnt like they are new technology. MP3 players have been around for a while. I doubt they would still be this expensive to make. A chinese seller i know was selling me portable MP3 players (128 mb) for 1300 bucks a piece for 50 pieces with a 1 year replacement warranty. If thats the price quotient then what the heck is going on?

I think that there should be more MP3 solid state players that can accept cards. It seems that the companies decided to eliminate this so that people will buy more players. A good player to me would be: 1. An easy to use quality player 2. Practical design 3. Support flash cards - to 1 Gb 4. Adequate size. Supper smallness can be a disadvantage. 5. AA or A batteries Also good (but not essential): 1. FM/AM radio 2, Ability to use to do audio recording What is not cruical: 1. mini size. A cigarette pack size would be okay - maybe advantage because it would allow storage of flash memory cards. It would be great to go on a vacation and use such a player. I wold like to be able to take a batch of flash memory cards filled with content that I want to listen to. Fashion seems to dictate the design. More emphasis should be put into quality and practicality of design.
