The quest for an accurate image search

A look at how search giants - Google, MSN and Yahoo perform to deliver better image search results.
Microsoft Live Search

Microsoft was a much later entry into the serious search market. Only after did Google start to take much of the market share did Microsoft scramble to gain some foot hold into the search market. Whatever may be the history, Microsoft has certainly learned from this and have a wonderful engine to show off its technology prowess.
Going to Live Image Search and typing "Paris" yields a lot more Eiffel Tower photos and then a mixture of the celebrity Paris Hilton.
Live search has the advantage of a very intuitive search interface than any other search engine on the market. The Vista-ish feel of resizing all the thumbnails with a simple scroll on top, infinite scroll (no next) button, the popping up of photos when hovered upon to the almost perfect "Refine by" section on the right really makes Live search an excellent search companion.
Unlike Google's interface, Refine by section is bang in front with Aspect ratio that other search engines lack, Style to choose between photograph, Illustration and Face which lets you refine your search more other than just Face. Live search also adds a very helpful "Scratchpad" feature where you can store images that you've searched for.
Overall, you may find Microsoft's image search engine more interesting though unfortunately Microsoft's index is smaller than Google's.
