The Panasonic PT-P1SDU

The Panasonic PT-P1SDU

The Panasonic PT-P1SDU perfectly fits the bill of what our counter parts in the fashion fraternity say, "Small is the new Big."

Compact, Portable, supports SD card operation without connecting it to a PC.

Non-uniform bright spots in some areas of the screen, Bleeding of color for text.

Whenever someone mentions the word 'projector', the first thing that comes to my mind is the musty A/C cinema halls showing movies that I slept through most of the times.

OK!!!!! I accept it. My friends have a crappy taste when it comes to movies. But hey, we are not discussing movies here. And any which ways, projectors usage is not at all restricted to being in the movie halls only. Almost every office you visit, you'll see smart guys (and not so smart guys as well) dressed in formals and fancy ties getting ready for so-called meetings and presentations. Consequently, projectors do make their presence felt in every other corporate environment. I still remember those days when presentation meant hundreds of transparencies with hand drawn diagrams, charts, and text.

The Panasonic PT-P1SDU that we have for review today, perfectly fits the bill of what our counter parts in the fashion fraternity say, "Small is the new Big."

First impression

When I unpacked the box, glanced at all the contents; I thought there must have been some mistake, some miscommunication. Projectors aren't that small. I knew the Panasonic PT-P1SDU was supposed to be small but this small; no way!!

Panasonic claims that the PT-P1SDU is the world's lightest and smallest LCD projector.
It weighs 1.3 kg with dimensions measuring 234 x 65 x 188 mm. The unit delivers 1,500 lumens of brightness and has a variety of features.

Features

The PT-P1SDU is the modern avatar of the ancient mechanical slide projectors. It features built-in digital photo slide shows and can also give transition effects and automatic photo rotation. It can also run photo slide shows directly from an SD card.

The PT-P1SDU incorporates the facility to deliver Power Point presentation with or without a laptop for extreme mobility. Panasonic's Image Creator software converts the MS Power Point file into JPEG files. It also features a 'Presentation' mode that starts a slide show automatically when an SD card is inserted into the card slot.

PT-P1SDU produces a contrast ratio of 400:1 at a resolution of 800x600 native SVGA resolutions and also gives advanced resizing support for UXGA. It boasts of Panasonic's exclusive Daylight View technology that helps achieve a significant improvement in image performance. The ambient light sensor built into the projector is capable of detecting changes in light intensity inside a room and correspondingly enhances the perceptible colors thus helping to display near-PC like quality.

White balance adjustments and real-time keystone correction are some more features that help displaying better quality images. The PT-P1SDU is an HDTV and also sports an S-Video input that can display images with aspect ratios of either 4:3 or 16:9. The unit provides compatibility for NTSC, NTSC 4.43, PAL, PAL-M, PAL-N, PAL-60, and SECAM standards.

Other features include:

Projection on screens ranging in size from 38 to 300 inches
Auto Search
Built-in speaker
Multi-language on-screen menu with graphical icons
Video inputs for connecting two DVD/video sources at the same time
Front/rear projection
Ceiling/desk installation
Card-type remote control.

Security features include SD card key and password control lock.

I shudder to "remember those days when presentation meant hundreds of transparencies with hand drawn diagrams, charts, and text." We this seems pretty slim, petite, efficient and economical.
