I'm sure you already know about the Tata Indicom Plug 2 Surf -- with all these ads flashing in our face during the entire World Cup series. One ad goes like this: Bollywood celebrity Kajol walks in on an aspiring model and a couple of her friends. She inserts the Plug 2 Surf (a USB device) into the laptop and presto! They are connected to the Internet. Let's investigate this little device and see if it really provides for a happy ending (read a good solution for your net connection).

My advice to everyone: DO NOT BUY TATA INDICOM PLUG TO SURF, Even if you are offered the the same free of cost. I am an aggrieved customer, one in thousands. Very poor service quality, very poor signal strength and spread, exorbitantly inflated billing, poorest of poor customer service,....and what not! If you are insistent that you won't learn from others' mistakes, you can go ahead and buy this product...I was one like that :( Babu George

Hi Everyone, I took Tata Indicom Plug to Surf connection on Aug 14th 2008 at hyderabad. It has been activated i am able to connect from hyderabad from Aug 16th 2008. I came to Bangalore and when i am trying to operate it here, it throws the following error: Error 721:The remote computer didnot respond. Can any one help me wat to do for this? Never use the Tata Indicom plug to surf with the Sony Laptop. I had a very very very bad experience with Tata Indicom. After several complaints some technician with the least knowledge of computers landed at my place and asked me to format my laptop. And I formatted it only to find that I have lost my original OS in Sony Vaio since I did not take a back up. After lots and lots of struggle and reinstallation some other tata technician came to my place only to give this foolish solution of changing the OS to XP. Airtel works fine on my Laptop with Windows Vista.

Hopeless stuff... never buy it... the speed of browsing as well as that of download is dead slow. Moreover, the speed+ software that is recommended to increase the speed doesn't works at all and the speed+ server is either busy or not reachable most of the times. At the time of buying, they told that a varying download speed of 30-40 kbps would be available but it all turned out to be fake... i'm currently getting a download speed of max. 2-3 kbps after using the speed+ as well as an another download accelerator. So it's my advice to u people that don't buy this stuff, they are just cheating people with this product... It wasn't expected of a reputed companies like the tatas..

The speed is really slow. I dont know if some download of speed plus helps. Can any change in TCP optimiser help? How? Also when the bill comes it is based on units consumed irespective of the fact that free usage of 1800/3600 minutes is kept under watch. How many Mbs are equal to how many Units? The bill shows that down/upload is charged though they boast that bills upto free minutes are 'FREE'. Is it really so?

I took it before one month. I am in Bangalore. They promised it gives atleast 153kpbs. Thru speedtest.net I could measure the download speed is only around 20kbps. When I called to CC yesterday they said the connectivity speed will be 153kbps and surfing speed will be 20-40 kbps. What the hell I am going to do with connectivity speed? What I need is browsing speed. No where they mentioned that browsing speed would be only 20-40 kbps. Now I repent for spending Rs.2500 for this kit. In evening, the speed is very worst, than a dialup modem. However in mornings speed is better. It is being said and I too believed that tatas are one of those ethical business houses. But now I don't think so.

i bought tata's surf n plug two months back. i have no problem with speed but the main problem which i am facing is that pictures and graphics get blurred and put lots of strain to eyes. firstly i thought there must be prob with my hp laptop but i was wrong coz when i went to show hp serving center they just told me that you are not the first customer who has this problem . he connected my laptop via broadband and to my surprise everything was so crystal clear. so please let us know how 2 rectify this problem? deepak

I am a new customer of this Plug2Surf. Opening simple mail and typed chat is somehow going fine for me. But when I try voice chat the connection get loose automatically. We expect a more user friendly review from Techtree after taking feedback from actual users. I recently bought one Plug to Surf modem and would like to suggest ?Do not buy this lousy product and waste your money?. Most of the time I am unable to connect with error message ?remote computer did not respond, error 721?. Even I am lucky and thru with the connection, the speed is so slow that after waiting for few minutes you will rewarded with the message ?pages can not be displayed?. You will get a better speed with your landline dial up connection. Customer care service of Tata Indicom are more busy to close the complain calls rather than addressing the customer inconvenience. And at the end, you are stuck with this useless Sungill modem as you have already spent 3000 bucks. PS: I am sending this message thru another internet service provider; as usual Tata Indicom failed to open the Techtree page.

I get this same error on my Airtel Edge USB modem. This error comes mainly when there is a total signal loss. Place the SIM card in your phone to check signal strength in your exact location.

Batter to use Airtel's GPRS service. In M.P./CG it gives 115kbps. at Rs.10/day with unlimited downloading. you have to only a airtl SIM and a mobile phone which have internal modem.

i am using airtel's edge service for Rs 498pm...(with tricks i have used the same service for free ;) the details i am not divulging here:D ) the d/l speed goes upto 22-23kbps (naturally surfing speed is >170kbps) stable connection...and there is absolutely no hassles...only problem is that u need to have a EDGE enabled handset and some tech knowledge...

The Airtel Edge speed can go upto 57 kbps. I just got it last Tuesday. My only problem is the signal strength is between 1 to 3 bars in different rooms of my house in Bandra (West). On the balcony, it goes up & down between 3 & 4 bars. Due to this, my download speed fluctuates between 9kbps-52kbps every seconds. I get a total signal loss for 3 minutes every hour which is irritating. Just today between 3:10am-4:10am I managed to download a 101MB file which is actually good speed. Aitel Cust Relation will be giving me a Gold SIM card next week to determine if the problem is with signal strength in my location. Is there Anyone in Bandra (W) using wireless internet?

Well speed is the biggest joke with this useless device. I am a new subscriber and for one month plus there was no surfing possible. Yes the engineers are prompt in visiting, but they come without any solutions. This plug-n-surf device is the biggest fraud, very fit for consumer court for action and damages. Buying one of these is buying worries and headaches. Who ever has written this assessment seems to be an exception. Even the TataIndicom dealers agree with it. Even the TataIndicom engineers agree as I have met many in the process of my complaint, but employees they can not officially say. Either the network is not proper or down or this technology is obsolete. Technical issues the company is unable to handle. The advertisement with this starlet girl Kajol is totally is misleading. The field usage is just the opposite. I as a user is looking for a divine intervention. Hueweii USB modem that TataIndicom used had a better speed. But in the current scenerio will check to compare both since one my relative bought long time back, and I had used it for about 4 months and that made me opt for wireless USB connection from TataIndicom.
