The Sony Ericsson Z550i is a GSM Tri-band clamshell. Let's have a look at it.
Feature-rich phone, Elegant and sturdy design, Good build and finish, 1.3 MP Camera, 20 MB internal memory, Expandable memory, Well-priced.
Average bundle, M2 memory is very expensive.
Earlier we had the Nokia 6131 for review; this model from Sony Ericsson has a potential to be a neck-to-neck rival to it. The Sony Ericsson Z550i has a lot going its way but then the competition is from Nokia and Sony Ericsson has left no stone unturned to match the rivals. Let's see what competition Sony Ericsson can put up against it; so we will directly compare it to the Nokia 6131.
Introduction
The Sony Ericsson Z550i is also a clamshell like its competitor the 6131. It is a GSM Tri-band phone while Nokia's 6131 is a GSM Quad-band phone. The Z550i is smaller and thus lighter weighing just 93 grams with dimensions 87.5 x 45.4 x 20 mm. The Z550i has a 256K TFT color screen on the inside and a mono-display on the outside. The external mono-display does well displaying the time, name of the contact or number of the incoming call, FM Radio Station, and alerts (message, missed call, reminders, etc.) The contrast of the inner screen is good and looks very pleasant to the eyes. The screen is smaller compared to the 6131, that's because of the comparatively small dimensions of the clamshell.
I can't download any software or game through web on my z550i.please help me.

The phone is not excellent. FM radio, speakers, mic, screen, bluetooth are not so good.

i downloaded few .3gp movie files on the memory stick of the phone. The downloading was fine, and the files showed up in the phone. However, when i play the files, only audio is available, there is no picture. A .3gp video shot with the phone plays fine without any problem. Can anyone tell me the reason for this and how to correct it.

help me. i had connected this cell with USB cable to system but i was just not able to disconnect it using safely remove hardware. it was just not stopin and at last i had to shut down the system without removing the data cable. the datacable which i use is of K750i becos they had not provided with the mobile pack and the dealer said i can use the same data cable of k750i's to z550i also can any one help me why it happend like that.

hey itsnot a big prb. when u connect ur phone wid urpc just dont double click on phonecard drive or memorycard drive,use d explore option to do wat uwant ndu see tthat u will b able to to remove ur phone safetly.....

Simply connect the data cable to the PC and transfer the file to the Cell. But be sure that the particular file is in the 3gp format. That shouldnt be creating any problem to play the video file.

Connect to the PC using the data cable and transfer file the same way as you transfer the Audio file. But be sure that its in 3GP format otherwise there is chance that you might be facing problem during playback.

I also went for buying W200i and bought Z550i. W200i significantly better in sound volume but only without hand free , with handsfree both are neck to neck, but inferior in camera quality , bcuase it has VGA camera while Z550i has 1.3 MP camera. W220i comes along with data cable and 226 MB inbuilt memory while Z550 i comes with 26 MB memory but has slot for extendable memory. W200i has no bluetooth provision while Z 550i is quipped with this feature.

i am using z550i and all i can say is that all features are great. Its a all-in-one quality phone. Only drawback is that it has inbuilt 20 mb of memory, and extra memory card for this model is expensive. And yes, you can send photos to and from other mobiles as well as pc from this phone as it is bluetooth enabled.

se 550i has everything you ask for. the sound, video, design, features are great.just buy adata cable of rs 250/- to connect your phone to compu. your compu needs to have an ext blutooth to connect to mobile-bluetooth, but there is no need for that. you can download videos from and to compu also.you can make your own mp3 ringtones in compu and transfer it to mobile

Lot of people are buying Sonyericsson Phones- and the latest ones use memory stick micro m2, At the time of purchase one feels that perhaps this expansion card will be same as Sony Memory stick Duo Pro i.e. about Rs. 1100 for 1 GB- Butto every ones unpleasant surprise 1 GB M2 is costing 3600 - ppl beware!!- also please anybody finding cheaper memory stick micro please post !!!

To Frazier Barreto the reviewer- i personally own this phone and it is very gud. anyways in your review u said that to cancel a call one has to open the flap.i would like to tell you that you are mistaken the call can be cancelled via the volume control buttons on the left. one has to press the + key twice and the mono display shows the message busy tone sent. moreover you didn't mention anything about the headphones which are bundled along with the mobile. i hope you keep these things on mind and edit the article as soon as possible.

Der is also an option in settings>call>open to answer wherein u can select to answer da call by either openin da flap or open da flap den clik on answer.....btw dis fone rocks....menus is damn fast...da finish of da fone is immaculate....screen quality looks awesome...camera quality cud hav been better (especially at night) .....overall a really smart fone 4 a smart price.....nyways guys m2 micro price is gona come down in da a few months as sony ericsson is gona make many more fones wit m2 micro slot in it....m2 micro is far more better den its predecssors ^_^

Cool Phone, but the one I bought from mumbai has the words "Z550i" written on the top panel beside the camera in a vertical manner, which is not seen in the phone used for Editorial Review. CAN ANYBODY TELL, WHY? By the way, I bought it for 8000 bucks.

Well I dont know about K or P series phones, but not as great as the W series. (Ofcourse this is not a walky so you do expect that!) Let me also tell you that I havent compared using the same songs, that can probably make a differrence, will tell ya a few days later. But in any case not bad at all!

you are wrong when you say that one has to flip over to cancel a call. YOU CAN altertnately cancel a call WITHOUT FLIPPING by pressing volume minus button twice. So plz get yr stats right. I am satisfied with what i have! but i need to buy M2 memory stick, which u say is costly.
