Sennheiser HD 201 G4ME

These casual headphones are tuned for gaming.

Excellent for gaming, Excellent soundstage performance, Comfortable, 3m long cable.

Weak bass and overall mid-range reproduction, Lots of audio leakage, Can't be driven well by many MP3 players.

Features

The HD 201 G4ME are a pair of closed-back circumaural headphones with a chrome finished exterior, quite unlike any other headphone in the Sennheiser HD series. They are dark blue in color (except the chrome back of the headphone cans) and are mostly built of plastic. The ear pads are made of high quality leatherette to make them sit comfortably around your ears.

The headband is padded underneath with similar leatherette for added comfort. The grip is not too hard and we found them comfortable enough for a couple of hours of use; thanks to it being lightweight. At 165 gm, it becomes very easy to carry them around, which is a big plus since a gamer would want to carry them to various places for LAN parties.

The cans are adjustable and can swing sideways, but we doubt how long the swinging mechanism would last due to their questionable build quality. The headband is also adjustable.

These come with a seemingly endless 3m cable that can suffice most situations. This is very useful when used with computers with only rear audio ports. The cables are made of four strands of OFC or Oxygen Free Copper to bring you audio signals with all their purity intact. The cables are not stiff and are dexterous enough to be channeled around easily. The stereo jack is gold-plated 3.5 mm, which is done to reduce contact noise.

Where can I buy audiophile quality headphones/earplugs (brands such as Sennheiser, Koss, Shure, Denon etc) in India online? Ebay seems to have some but I'm almost sure they're fake!

Hi ya, You can easily buy them now using the real distributor as Sennheiser is officially in India now. Just visit their site. Find the nearest distributor (NOT DEALER as DEALER MAY BE SELLING FAKE) and buy it directly. HD 201 in India presently priced at Rs 1350/- (Distributor price/Gautam agencies/Pune)

From the initial impressions i would still prefer the HD 202s available for ~1500/- Higher SPL at same input.

Interestingly the sound quality description matches exactly that of the Philips SHP 2500 Headphones that I bought a couple of weeks ago. I even wrote a review for it here: http://thekrazzyblog.blogspot.com/2008/11/philips-shp2500-headphones-review.html So basically you spend more than three times over the price of the Philips set on this Sennheiser set to get essentially the same sound quality, comfort and build but with a fancier brand name? WTH! I guess now we know big brand names don't always mean better sound quality.
