Gameplay

This is primarily a stealth game, so expect to do a lot of sneaking around when playing as Clank. The sneaking around has its benefits - you get extra bolts for being sneaky. In the previous games, Clank was known more for his one-liners and puzzle-solving abilities. This time around, he means business and can take down any enemy with his gadgets and super weapons. There is a sneak kill option, which gives you more bolts. For a perfect sneak kill, you go behind an enemy unit and start the sneak kill sequence. A set of 4 button combinations will appear that you have to successfully match by pressing the respective buttons within the time limit. A perfect sneak kill will give you extra bolts. Honestly, i enjoyed it the first 20 times, after which it got a little boring.



Clank has numerous gadgets including rocket-powered boots, a boomerang bow-tie, a pen that squirts ink and disables alarms and lasers, a hologram ring and so on. The missions have been designed in such a way that the player gets to use most of his gadgets. The bow-tie and the ink pen are very useful upfront. You see initially that the game is all about stealth; you don't go about eliminating enemies as you did in previous titles in the series. There are a few scripted scenarios that Clank will have to go through. It's basically a mini-game, a bunch of random button combinations appear at the bottom of the screen and successfully hitting all of them will trigger the scripted sequence. If you manage to press all the buttons correctly, you will clear that particular scenario with ease, if you mess it up you'll probably alert the guards and get thrashed. The game borrows heavily from other stealth games like MGS, but it's all in good humor. You can pose as a statue, cling to ledges and sneak behind enemies and do much more. The weapons and gadgets can be upgraded from vendors, and these help especially when battling the tougher enemies as the game progresses.

Besides Clank, Ratchet, and Captain Quark, you can also play as three tiny robots sent by the agency to help Clank. Their missions are basic puzzles and provide a good change of pace. Meanwhile, Ratchet and Quark battle hordes of enemies, with Quark singing about his left butt cheek all the while. Ratchet's missions can get quite tedious as he is constantly defending himself from a gazillion enemies.



The game still retains all its qualities like puzzles and platforming but, at the same time, adds some stealth to it. The stealth missions are good fun, but there are just too many different characters, which can be quite overwhelming.
