>FreeAgent Pro

FreeAgent Pro line of external drives have 3.5-inch hard drives and feature a sleek design, black brushed metal finish, and an orange light that lights up the top and the spine of the drives. A sturdy plastic base that houses the power and data connectors supports the drive casing.

You can connect FreeAgent Pro to a PC using a Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0, FireWire 400, or eSATA connector. These data connectors are actually removable modules. One of the modules has 2 FireWire 400 connectors, while the other has a USB2.0 and eSATA connector.

They're secured by a screw, which can easily be undone with a coin or screwdriver, and swapped for different data connections.

FreeAgent Pro comes with bundled software called FreeAgent Tools and AutoBackup.

FreeAgent Pro Tools

FreeAgent Pro Tools is used to manage various features and settings for the FreeAgent Pro external drive. This tool allows you to create restore points, execute rollbacks, and start or schedule backups. It also allows you to use FreeAgent Pro to backup data on to a Seagate internet server so as to allow data accessibility from anywhere on the planet. Of course, you'll need an internet storage account with Seagate, and you should be running another software tool called AutoBackup (we'll talk about it later in the review).

FreeAgent Pro Tools also let you run diagnostic tests on the FreeAgent Pro drives, adjust the drive sleep interval, and turn the lights on or off.

AutoBackup

As aforementioned, you need to run AutoBackup to backup data on the FreeAgent Pro drive. AutoBackup allows you to setup a backup plan for your drives.

First, you've to select where you need to save the data. You can choose from hard drives, Seagate internet drives, network drives, flash drives, or an iPod.

Overall, FreeAgent Pro Tools and AutoBackup are a great pair to manage your data and drives.

Performance

Since we've tested both the 320 GB and the 750 GB version of FreeAgent Pro, you'll see 2 sets of benchmark results, so don't go around posting and flaming that there's been some mistake in the review.

I bought the 500 Gig "desktop" version for USD 130. It comes with NO software, not even the diagnostics, NO on/off switch, not even an activity light!

Lol waste of money, Buy internal 320GB Rs. 3500, OR 500GB Rs. 5400 Seagate hdd and buy casing Rs. 750 and use without problems. This paricular casing supports both SATA and IDE.

My Vantec NextStar 3 casing and a WD Barracuda 750 GB HDD cost me Rs.15,900 (by mail order). So if you go for DIY, this baby will cost you marginally more but definitely not 1.5x more .

But if you buy a 320GB HDD, it will cost around 3500-3800 bucks and a casing for decent casing for 1000-1500, It would come to around 4300 bucks max...while the Seagate 320GB drive costs more than 9k...get your calculator dude.
