Seagate FreeAgent Go claims to give the competition a run for its money, in terms of performance as well as price.
The last 2.5-inch HDD-based portable storage drive we tested, the Iomega eGO, was a good performer but didn't quite fit the budget. And as we said, it's better to look at other options too. So today, we've reviewed a 2.5-inch HDD based portable storage option, the Seagate FreeAgent Go (160GB). Compared to the Iomega, it has some pretty big shoes to fill in terms of performance. Let's see what happens.
The Drive
The Seagate FreeAgent Go sports a sleek and flat design with a dark grey hard plastic cover and an orange light at the side. It misses on the metal casing and the orange spine of the desktop version of the FreeAgent drives. Nonetheless, the design is neat with clean lines and rounded edges.

Most people are looking for a dumb storage device. I for one hate the fact that Sandisk Cruzers ship with their U3 software. I've never found a use for it and it just occupies space on my drive. I could care less for ceedo. At the max, I would want a sync software for backup. I think the Iomega would be a better buy than this. Plus, as other people have pointed out, the seagate case does not really offer any protection.

Well that might be your take on it but i found Ceedo s/w really useful...ability to take your PC environment with you is really helpful...it feels like im workin on my PC on any PC...i would certainly expect more frm my external storage device and seagate delievers that....as far build is concerned ..seagate offers huge 5 yrs warranty on it so that shld cover it...if notin else it is much cheaper than Iomega..i think its value for money :)

I bought a seagate freeagent usb harddrive from itnet in cochin..It is really superb..they have both 120 and 160 in stock

The Ceedo came with my Freeagent Go expired after one month. It was a demo version for one month and required some $30 to activate it. After expiry, you can not even use the softwares installed in demo time. So it is if no use. Conceptually Ceedo is very good but practically it is not that good. I could not install Nero, Photoshop and some more important application which I use regularly. It has compatibility problem with many softwares.

FINALLY!!!!!! A better REVIEW!!! I doubt this article would have come up if I didnt talk about seagate on that iomega article. Anyways it would be better if there is a massive comparison with seagate+transcend casing hdd, buffalo drives, iomega, WD passport and seagate.

Both the products (Iomega and Seagate) were in the labs at more or less the same time. It was just a matter of which of the 2 was tested and published before the other. Though we really appreciate your comments, this review had nothing to do with them. Sorry to disappoint you mate :) But I will take your other feedback into consideration for sure.

this is a super product , i have bought one apparently i bought it from a free market in Dubai for $169 for a FreeAgent 120GB hard drive. i should definitely have waited for 160GB drive & it would have costed me cheaper as well. nevertheless i find this product amazing & serves all my data transfer needs. this is 1 gadget u would love to have in u'r collection.

Even Though Iomega eGo drives was faster than Seagate FreeAgent Go in terms of data transfer but Seagate offer whole of other features like Ceedo and Argo softwares which lets you take settings, data, and applications from your PC--such as bookmarks, passwords, and preferences--with you on the drive and access those items from any other PC with a USB port and 5 yrs warranty cmes pretty handy...so this products wins hands down...I would like to know which stores in india sells Seagate FreeAgent Go (160 GB) .
