Samsung's answer to the Apple iPod Touch

Sleek and elegant design, Very Good audio quality, Good quality screen, Bluetooth connectivity (for wireless headset and mobile phone), Visually appealing interface.

Screen could have been brighter, Expensive, Touch-input not very accurate.

Design and Construction

Although designed along the lines of the iPod Touch, the Samsung YP-P2 has a charm that's all its own. It's available in three appealing colors; White, Black and the one we received - Red Wine. Its design is pretty sleek and looks quite elegant too. It's a little smaller in dimension than the Touch; especially the width and weight, which makes it easily pocketable. The player's build is decent too.

The front comprises of the decently-sized touch-screen and is covered by a now-typical transparent material, which makes the front prone to fingerprints. The high resolution makes the content look crisp and vivid; which is the case with most Samsung products. The screen has a 16:9 (wide-screen) aspect ratio that makes it great for viewing DVD rips without those annoying black borders at the top and bottom.

Below the screen lies a circular LED that indicates various states of the player, like Low battery or during pairing Bluetooth devices.

But I wasn't completely impressed with the display. The brightness wasn't good enough. This was clearly evident when I used the player in direct sunlight; I could barely see the content even with the brightness on max. Although, in medium to low lighting conditions, the screen's very much usable.

Secondly, the touch-input of the screen is not always accurate. At times, I had to repeat my actions for it to recognize my input. This, however, is the case with most resistive touch-screen displays that weren't originally meant to be controlled with the fingers. It's not a big minus, for it works just fine once you get used to it. The iPod Touch still has the upper hand in terms of touch-input accuracy.

I really like that Samsung has not gone 'all-things-touch' with the YP-P2. It's good to see the Play/Pause button next to the hold switch on the left side and the volume buttons on the right.

The side buttons prove to be convenient when you want to operate the player without removing it from your pocket.
