We've already seen one of the two Star phones that Samsung recently released for the Indian market. The Star 3G phone was the higher priced phone of the two which sported 3G capabilities and had more features to offer. Today we look at the standard Star phone or the non-3G as it's popularly known. The Samsung Star phone is a touch phone for the masses sporting Samsung's TouchWIZ interface, which was showcased about a year ago on the TouchWIZ F480. The Star non-3G is the phone that is competing against the LG Cookie, but will it bring the Cookie down to its knees is something we have do find out. However, we know that the Star has forced LG to lower the price of the Cookie to around 9 K.

Hi....i have been using this phone for a month and im very happy with it. i just want to ask that what should i do to watch a movie on my samsung star. i have a 2gb m.card and on my laptop i got a movie of 600mb which is a complete movie and 1st i tried it to convert it in 3gp which was done but when i played it in my samsung star phone, the quality was bad and the pixels were moving so i delete it....i want to ask any good way to watch the movie in great quality on my mobile....ill be very thankfull to u

actually the star 3g also has gesture control. By saying it doesnt, u r misguiding d ppl. Also u din't review the retail version of star 3g, so there r bound to b differences.

i got it purchased it recently (7 days back) with a delay of 10 in shipment well was worth a wait from samsung site with free blutooth for 9799 the phone is good but have some short comings 1. U cant mute the call u can't access the menu while making or receiving calls dose'nt have fast dial with photo display menu ( as found on P910i camera give you good normal quality photos, Screen is good it sounds good too, UI is good but it takes time to get use too and last not but least has good batt rest i have not checked it yet " Recommended "

My Samsung Star gone bad in just 5 days!!! the Touchscreen stopped working completely...on reaching Service Centre, they told me that touchscreens are not available so I've to wait for 5-7 days...but they are now giving me a new Star now..so certainly not a good experience...but few days for which I used the phone I was impressed..I was told by someone in Samsung that they are receiving high percentage of complaints for Star touchscreens..so beware before you go for a Star..it may not shine at all....!!!

I bought this moble last week. I am happy about it. But its manual is not complete. Not explaining all functions. Took time to figure out how to put the phone in silent mode easily. Press key-pad> press # key for two seconds.!

Enter into profile page & you can easily edit it. Otherwise just use volume side keys & use you can edit it.

Around 1 day back I had a plan to buy a touch screen phone. I had two choices Samsung Star - 9700 LG Cookie - 9600 While reviewing both I found that Samsung star doesn't allow multitasking not sure of this model Samsung Star GT-S5233A but atleast Samsung GT-S5600 Star doesn't allow multitasking. Apart from the listed features here by Anam Ghai .. LG Cookie does have fast dial does have photo display menu Has a Good UI Overall it is better than Samsung Star

You can multitask, takes a bit of doing, that's all. I was a bit disappointed by the lack of multitasking, but there is a simple way out. Whatever application you're using, just lock the phone, this takes you to the locked screen, where you can use gesture unlock to go to any application you like. For example, while watching a video, simply pause it and lock the phone. Use smart unlock to send a couple of messages and calls, and when you come back to the video player, it'll be right there, as you had left it. Admittedly, it should have been easier to use, but multitasking is very much present. Cheerio :)

M using Star3g for a couple of weeks, it has lots of advantage and features than lg cookie. Who says it does not have speed dial, it has also top 5 photo speed dial, much better than lg cookie. it has 3 different desktop (left, centre, right) while lg cookie has only 2(centre , right). and you can place different applications, speed dial, music, radio, bluetooth, browser, etc, atleast 10 more app in the 3 different desktop in star. Cool fonts r supported in star, bt not in lg cookie. Star is far more Superior and better than LG cookie. As it supports 3.5mm, i bought sony earphones (plug in). Awesome Muic Quality. N its far more responsive than LG cookie, if u dont belive just see for urself, just google it "better samsung star lg cookie kp500". Hope u made the best choice in buying the Best Touchscreen that comes under 10K.

Ya.. Thatz correct.. My phone will also restarts when i open certain photo cotnents and moreover to load Images in my mobile it will take around 10 mins. I am unable to connect to PC studio till now.And I agree that on every call the Keypad will lock after every 2 seconds and to unlock it, it will take more than 5 sec. Am still unable to load any additional softwares. Getting only the error msg 'File Format Not supported'. Any suggestion to retify these issues.

I have this phone. The best part about it is the smooth H.264 playback. Although you have to limit the resolution to 320x240 (even on cookie). Stretching work fine for widescreen vids though.

David the phone can be described in one single word......................"AWESOME!!"yeah even the battery life is really good...lasted me for about 2 days with heavy use. SOUND QUALITY........better than many of the sony ericsson phones..............and even the camera is pretty decent in lighted conditions...in all an almost PERFECt phone..better than LG cookie any day!

I am using this phone for over two months. I think we need a small correction in this review. The battery life is really good. you can not list it in the cons. I tested it for almost 12 hrs of music + 2 hr call duration + 30 mins of bluetooth downloads + few camera snaps & videos recordings over almost 2 days with display brightness 3/5. I agree that it cant give 13 hrs of talktime (gives around 8-10 hrs, which is significantly high comapred to most of even higher end phones could do), but its music payback time is surprisingly too good. You can get more than 15 hrs with earphones and i did not test completely but should be much more than 8-9 hours while on phone speaker. Coming to the audio quality, i just stopped using my sony NWZ player. The audio quality delivered is as good as SonyEric., walkman phones. But the earphones are of avg quality. I bought another samsung earphone connector which supports the 3.5 mm jack and using it with good quality earphones.

Audio Quality suck big-time wid the provided headset. But i got an adapter form eBay and connected my Sony Fontopia and its as good as my friend's iPod Nano 4g and better than my prv nokia xpressMusic 5310. I listen to music about 5 hrs a day and it lasts me 3-4 days (I dont use the camera often). All together a AWESOME phone. Go for it. The retail model comes with a stylus but no compartment is present in phone to keep it. And you would not even need stylus to use phone.. Using this phone for 10 days and really happy with the features, camera quality and large screen.. Watching videos is good but for large files if you forward then sound will lose sync with video.. overall this phone is a gr8 buy at 10k
