Features

The Samsung C140, being a basic phone, has nothing really to talk about out here. Nevertheless we will look at the subjects that matter the most in this segment of phones which could turn it into a strong contender for being saleable.

This phone has GPRS for the little surfing that you'd actually do with this phone. You can even send MMSs once you have activated your GPRS through the service provider. The phone has 600 KB of internal memory, which isn't poor; but consider this, the C130 bundles 1.8 MB of memory. Other features include 500 phonebook entries and 30 entries each for dialed, received, and missed calls. The other nitty-gritty's like organizer, calendar, to-do list, calculator, etc, are also there to keep you a bit organized.

Mobile Tracker

Mobile Tracker is a new innovation from Samsung. It is a tracking fuction incase of theft or misplacement of your mobile phone. This feature doesn't need to be activated through your service provider, thats where the innovation is. The working of this function is simple and effective.

To activate this fuction all you have to do is go to the Settings of the phone. In Settings; Security Mobile Tracker, Enable. Then you specify two mobile numbers and not your own. When there is a SIM change the Mobile Tracker function sends an SMS to each of two numbers you specified without the knowledge of the person in possesion of the phone.
Now it all depends on the two people who receive the message to inform you on receiving the same. Then you can track down the person who is using your phone by his phone number.

Battery Life

The Samsung C140 has an 800 mAh battery, which is good enough. The phone specifications state that the phone delivers 5 hours of talktime and around two weeks of standby. The phone on one whole charge lasted me 3 days with about 4 hours of talktime. There aren't many specialties in the phone so not much to fiddle with, which increases the battery life.

Conclusion

The Samsung SGH-C140 retails for around Rs. 2,300 with one-year warranty. That places this phone in the same price range head-on with the Nokia. But it's a Nokia after all, which rules the minds of most in India. Again, it's more user-friendly than the C140, I guess the C140 will be left behind in terms of sales.

You missed out 2 important security features patented by Samsung - Mobile Tracker and SOS Message. Thats the USP of this Phone at this price - NO one , not even Nokia has these features in any of their phones

Motorola c168 comes at around the same price point(2.5k) and also has FM in it. I am using the phone now and it is too good to use.

Sony Ericsson's model in this price range is J230i, a bit costlier (Rs. 3000). But it packs a FM radio and comes with a speaker and headset.

how could you write a review without even mentioning the usp of the product,let alone giving details it.ie:theft protection and enhanced security.anyways it was informative because i knew the usp and was keen to know other aspects.
