Samsung SGH-B100

Samsung SGH-B100

The handset is meant for those who need a phone just to stay in touch and nothing else

Good battery life, reasonably priced, color screen, mobile tracker, easy interface

No FM radio, slightly tough to set up GPRS, few design flaws

Build and Design

The phone follows the tried and tested candy bar design. It measures at 103.5mm x 44mm x 14.9mm and weighs 69.5g. It has an all-plastic finish that at first glance gives you the feeling that you are looking at a cheap phone. In fact, it reminded me of a mini-remote control with a very colourful screen and clear viewability.

The left hand side of the phone has a micro-USB port that serves the dual purpose of serving as a connection port for the charger and the included headset. This essentially nulls the use of the headset while recharging the phone. The USB port is hidden under a dust cover which does its job quite well but may break off with rough use.

The display is a square screen measuring 1.51 inches and supporting a resolution of 128x128 pixels and 65K colors. Below the screen are the two soft keys, which are followed by the "Call" and "Disconnect" keys, the "Cancel" key, and then the number keypad. The middle button of a standard D-pad is used as the "Selection" button while its sides are used to control movements.

The keypad is cramped and requires the user to utilise his/her fingernails more than the fingers themselves. This is especially seen when using the down button of the D-Pad. Over-pressing this button results in pressing the neighboring Cancel button

agree with xotiq that Shannon has not given any info that can't be gleaned from the features and specifications. Moreover the weight is specified as 78 gms but Shannon says it is 69 gms. Why don't you tell us a bit about what xotiq has asked, especially his questions 1, 3 and 5.

The Phone has pathetic voice quality. It simply cant cancel out external noise. The cealing fan noise really bugs the person on the other side, also while traveling , the Wind noise and the honks make this phone vitually unusable on the move..... I tried nokia and reliance "Classic" under the same conditions ....they seem to cancel out the noice pretty well....

Page 4: "The phone has a lithium ion, 100 mAh battery that gives a talktime of 9 hours." Then how much talktime can we expect from a 850mAh battery?

by Anonymous, ?, on May 20, 2008 06:22 PM, Report abuse   Reply

Talk time is predominantly dependant on signal strength and battery capacity. Larger the mAH(capacity), longer the talktime. Better the signal, the phone spends less charge trying to latch on to the network.

Shannon, where exactly have you reviewed the phone?? Where are details which we usually get from a 'technical/product review'?? 1>Call and network quality? 2>Build quality? 3>Real life battery figures for talk and standby? 4>There seems to be no attempt made at setting up GPRS!! 5>Value for money-comparision with models like Motorola W205 etc!! Finally, what is that you have revealed that is not available ready made on other sites or the phone carton itself??
