A Hi-Def video-on-demand service for cheap. You game?

A true gamer is well informed. He scours the Internet to get the latest dope on his favorite titles. While the Web is the most reliable source of information for most gamers, some still prefer to read their way through. Gaming magazines have been around for years and still command respect from gamers worldwide. Times are changing, though. The Web is now Web 2.0, and games are now going towards a phase called Game 3.0. As interaction increases between consumers, every new venture has a number with a ".0" in the end, which some find impressively next-gen, while others recognize it as pure marketing gimmick. Today we review a service of the 3.0 generation game called Qore, a PSN initiative.

The Good

Qore is a video service presented by PSN, this is a subscription-based video-on-demand service and is available for a fee of $3. Qore is basically a Hi-Def interactive video that contains insider info, developer diaries, concept art, screenshots, and much more. The whole episode can be downloaded after purchasing it off the PSN, it's a total of 1.5 gigabytes and offers all the videos in 720p. Every episode is supposed to last between 1-2 hours; this is a calculative figure taking into consideration time taken to view all the screenshots and artwork. The video also contains some free downloadable items like themes and PSN games. If you were to buy the annual subscription of Qore, which is $24 for 13 episodes, you get the very popular PSN title called Calling All Cars for free.

Qore also features Hi-Def Blu Ray Trailers, the first episode starts off with an impressive (although slightly old) trailer of the new Hulk Movie. After which, Veronica Belmont gives us a brief about Qore and its services. A very popular video blogger, Veronica is a great presenter and a great addition to the show. The first episode focuses on games like Socom: Confrontation, Afro Samurai, Soul Caliber 4, Secret Agent Clank, and Star Wars: Force Unleashed.

The main interface (see below) lets you choose whichever game you want to explore first, thus making this your own experience. There are minor hiccups in each section, which I will discus a little later. The Socom Confrontation videos are really informative as they explain each and every aspect of the game, both traditional and new. Every featured game video clearly shows top-notch production, and looks like they made sure you got your money's worth. My $3 were totally worth the Socom Beta key that the episode offers, and this is what makes Qore unique. If you are a Star Wars fan, you will really enjoy this section as it has quite a lot of content from the really impressive upcoming game as well as a funny video featuring a rather cute Darth Vader apprentice. A really cool Easter Egg can be found in the form of a minigame, activated by pressing L2, when on the main menu. The minigame is a hi-def version of Atari's Tennis game with a few electrical tweaks and can be played in multiplayer mode.

So, the news is that this is a great service, with tons of really good videos including an in-depth cool at Afro Samurai, the most "Hip" anime character ever. It has many game trailers, and free stuff like a Socom theme with the first episode. The Beta key for Socom is certainly a great addition and makes downloading 1.5GB on our local connections totally worth it. Now let's look at some of the not-so-good aspects.

Qore is HORRIBLE. It's like a high school production, just aweful.
