The Plextor ConvertX PX-AV100U is the latest in video capture devices and just like its big brother, the PX-M402U, it can capture videos directly in DVD quality MPEG or DivX format.

The Plextor ConvertX PX-AV100U is much smaller than the older PX-M402U and just as good to say the least. It accepts input from any analog device like old camcorders, VHS tape players, VCD players, videogame consoles and any other device that gives audio/video out through composite and S-Video modes. With the ConvertX, you can convert the formats used by the devices mentioned above to DivX video or DVD quality video as you watch them. It's all done on the fly, in real time!
The unit comes bundled with the necessary composite and S-Video cables to hook it up to your video player. It also has a USB 2.0 cable to connect to your PC. Unlike the previous installment, this one doesn't depend on an external power source to function. Instead it derives power from your PC itself, which is something the first unit should have done to begin with. You also get a CD containing the Intervideo WinDVD creator, which is a necessary install for the ConvertX.

I was a bit overenthusistic to buy this product. Now after september when this review was poted first on techtree.com, many new products and ideas have come on the hardware profiles. If any one of you have any idea for upgrading your system please get a motherboard withn 'IEEE 1394'. To thos port you can directly attachy your handy cam and get good pictures and videos.
