The brand Playstation has a lot of history behind its name, including legendary sales figures. Since December 2006, Playstation 2 has been the highest selling console in history. With around a 100 million units sold worldwide, it is a minuscule percentage of the entire world's population-I hope you understand my optimistic undertone. But, the Playstation brand has been under a lot of harsh scrutiny since PS3 was brought to life. I had the privilege to experience the PS3 recently and would like to share it with you all.
This feature is just my first impressions of the console and the games; comprehensive reviews will follow in the coming weeks. Click here for the upcoming games on the PS3.
A Rich Experience
The PS3 is a brilliant machine. It is actually a gorgeous looking media centre, as opposed to its singular gaming console image. Indeed, it is a hardcore gamer paradise because never has a gaming console existed packed with so much power; I am talking about its Cell Broadband Engine developed jointly by Toshiba, IBM and Sony with the 60 GB HDD and HDMI output. The PS3 is also the most expensive gaming console with a price tag of $500 US dollars. But trust me, it's worth it because the gaming experience with this magic box is out of this world.
Black Beauty
The PS3 is the most expensive, the most powerful and the most criticized, but it is also the most beautiful looking console ever. The black gloss exterior, the PS3 logo in a clean silver finish, the right curves at the right places, it sure is a treat for your eyes. Without a doubt it won't feel like an ugly piece of furniture next to your expensive home theater system. Although quite heavy at 5kg and bigger than the other consoles, it's very appealing.

Platform Performances: On paper, the PS3 is more powerful. In reality, it?s quite inferior to the 360. Without getting into too many details, the three general-purpose CPU?s the xbox360 has are currently FAR easier to take advantage of than the SPU?s on the PS3. I suspect a few years down the road some high budget, first party PS3 exclusive titles will come out that really take advantage of the SPU?s and do things the XBOX 360 can?t, but I don?t think the console is worth buying based on this speculation (for some it will be though, we'll have to wait and see how these games turn out). regarding Graphics: The XBOX 360 is a clear winner. The GPU is more powerful. It has more powerful fillrate, and far more pixel and vertex processing horsepower. Part of the reason is their choice of memory, and architecture of pixel and vertex procesing. I can?t get into details but the same vertex shader will run much slower on the PS3 than the XBOX 360. The 360 also has a clever new way rendering high definition anti aliased back buffers. To accomplish the same effect on PS3 is prohibitively expensive. For this reason I think many games will have no choice but to run in non-HD resolutions on the PS3 version, use a lower quality anti aliasing technique, or do back buffer upscaling. The end result in all cases is going to be noticeably worse image quality. Thx to carl nelson article : a developers perspective

Now heres where it gets a little tough the Wii vs the PS3 now let us not forget that the ps3 is still using that brillant controller, which now has six-axis so like the wii motion sensor but not quite as dependant on that kind of stuff. It privides cutting edge graphis which is out of this world i dare anyone to go and play any game and say it was boring ANY!. Though it is the most expensive yet cheaper then our blu-ray players so i believe ur getting ur buck and dont worry blu ray will beat HDDVD it has backing by i fink i can remember 11 major corporations "cant stop this train" So the fight is here the PS3 does what all other consoles do plus more except it is the most expensive but reasonably also it looks simply stunning when u see it real-life omg it looks like a piece of art. So will you go the extremely crap xbox 360 and play xbox live against homies and ese's in detroit slums or will you become a man buy the PS3 coz this is life which is worth spending every ounce of your money on. I was very impresst from the Wii actually but it does not give us cutting edge graphics if i wanted to go back to an extreme time playing games id buy a sega mega drive buy street fighter and streets of rage call heaps of my friends over and mate you cant beat those days THX.

There's nothing appealing for me, Sony and Microsoft haven't done anything new, just upgrade their old machines, on the other hand Nintendo always bring some innovation, that why Nintendo is doing so well now, sold millions of units in 4 months and still we don't have Mario games out, this time around Nintendo deserve the throne. It's going to be a tough one for Sony this time.

Dude Nintendo is altogether another platform as far as gaming goes.It offers a totally different gaming experience.However certain games like cod 3 are better played on a pc or a xbox 360 rather than a wii simply because it just doesn't look as good and at times things don't feel right.I feel the xbox 360 offers a more well rounded gaming experience.

Well i guess you could say that about the x-box 360 but not the ps3. I will do the greatest and shortest roundup youve ever heard in ur life son so "be alarmed but not aware" this was a commercial by John Howard bout watchin out for suspiscious terrorist stuff dont make sense though. Now the xbox 360 is probably the least attractive to consumer and also extremely unoriginal and i would say pricey for wat it offers. The xbox is practically a half ps3 for stupid fanboys and people who cant afford the ps3 Thus, how far will there sales of games go when povo detroit mofo's r buying ur system. Also, It is like u said unappealing performance wise because they have used stuff available way before 2006 and also its dodgeball external dvd drive wow how many ppl r gonna buy HDDVD now which by the way as already been pirated.

THe ps3 is nearly as good as having a nice gaming pc.After all you can surf the net,run limited applications on it.Its a really good console and has a lot of potential(far more than the xbox).Its just too bad that sonys being so arrogant towards customers.I just heard that dmc 4 will be on the xbox 360 as well.Although this may be a good thing for games in general its a bad thing for the ps3 with more exclusives going multiplatform and may possibly shorten the consoles lifespan if sony doesn't dish out something good like gow real soon.I don't see the point in buying a ps3 right now as its way too overpriced and has hardly a few games too back it up.Motor Storm is not really a reason to buy it anyway.

To know the full potential of the PS3 we have to wait of MGS 4..this game will back all the gamers to PS3,,PS3 is a supercomputers..and over the years it will regain its crown from its fellow competitor..just wait and watch

I think Sony will lose this console war. PS3 is very much a letdown for most gamers but not because it's a bad console, but because of Sony's promises. To refresh your memory: PS2 killed SEGA's Dreamcast console mainly because of the hype Sony has built around PS2. Sony was very succesfull in convincing their existing PS1 audience NOT to get a Dreamcast, and to WAIT for that mythical new system (PS2)... So, people actually waited for more expensive console (???). Anyway, this time they're not dealing with financially exhausted SEGA. They are dealing with Misro$oft who has faaaar more lot of money in their pockets. I don't beleive PS3 will die like a Dreamcast, but I do beleive that Sony already lost it's #1 place in this gen console wars. Sony can't afford price cuts any time soon because they already loosing money on every sold console (~300$ I beleive). I think they deserved it because of their arrogance. As for PS3:FIRST IMPRESSIONS, this guy sounds like he never saw what XBOX 360 can do.

Cool review... All those Who propone Xbox-360 hear this PS3 will make X-box Bite the Dust... I have a PS2 & i love it better than the first X-box... M$ is always in a hurry to release their consoles into the market for first mover adv. & other blah blah but then Thats all what they get... PS3 went through a lot of testing...and as they say Patience will pay off.. till now Xbox-360 fans are Bragging about their console since there is no real Competition(Wii is totally diff. type & category hence Excluded) PS3 is a formidable opponent, and in my view will surely excel over Xbox-360.. M$ waits in Apprehension.. :-)
