A new entry in an already crowded market. How will it stand out?

Good performance, Excellent cooling, Quiet fan on high speeds, Affordable.

Drastic drop in performance with AA enabled, No bundled game.

The 9600GT has been in the market for a while now and is an excellent alternative for those who can't afford the 8800GT. As you can read about it in our previous review, it trails just behind the 8800GT in most games. However with a price tag hovering around the 9K mark it's still on the higher side for some. Those looking to retire their 8600GT are still looking for something in a lower price range. To fill this gap in their product line up, Nvidia have launched the 9600GSO to please gamers on a tight budget.

It comes in two flavors, the 384MB version and the 768MB version. Today we'll be reviewing the PALIT 9600GSO 768 MB Sonic Edition. Will this card perform as good as its specs promise? Read on to find out.

Specification

Since this is the Sonic Edition from Palit, the card comes factory overclocked from the stock 550/1600 to 600/1800 on the core/memory. That's almost 10% boost right out of the box, not bad. The rest of the specs are as follows:

The Palit 9600 GSO Sonic is based on the same G92 core as the 8800GT with some modifications, of course. This card has more memory than the 9600GT but the bus width has been cut down from 256bit to 192bit (reminds me of the 8800GS). How this will affect gaming performance, is something we'll have to wait and see.

The Box:

The front side

The card came shipped in a sturdy box with its primary features displayed on the front. The back of the box is rather bland showing the specifications in 12 different languages.

The Bundle

The Included Bundle

It comes with your standard fare of accessories and cables. The following is included in the bundle:
-Quick installation guide
-VGA driver disk
-DVI-VGA Adapter
-DVI-HDMI Adapter
-Component and Composite out dongle
-PCI-E to Molex power adapter
-SPDIF cable
