D for Delta, V for Victory, D for Dumbass. If spelling out 'most wanted' DVD titles to your dumb movie walla makes you sick, here's a band-aid.

If you live within the reach of Sarvodaya, Shemaroo or Teenage DVD libraries in Mumbai, or if your home or office is within a stone throw of 'Habitat' in Bangalore, consider yourself to be a very lucky person. Not just because the real estate prices in these areas have reached the stratosphere, but simply because you are one of the very few who can walk across to a well stocked DVD library, select a movie, come home, microwave the popcorn, crack a beer or two and settle down to watch a DVD. Yes, an original DVD.

The rest of us who reside far, far away from these places have to be content with forking out 100 bucks for a pirated version of Ikiru which is delivered to us a by a paan chewing gent carrying an offensive canvas bag. Or we join hole-in-the wall DVD libraries where you create a stir if you ask if for 'Catch Me If You Can' and the proprietor proudly whispers that he has managed to acquire an original of Superman II from a cousin in US.

As a resident of Andheri (E), that's right East, which is very much on the wrong side of the tracks, I had very few options when it came to DVD libraries. There was a bloke in Malad who promised to deliver original movies at 100 bucks a pop. The problem was that he conversed in a Lucknow North accent and I had a pronounced Andheri (E) twang. And the twain never really managed to meet which was made very obvious when I asked for Babeland, he sent me Babul. Also, since he did not have a site, I had no idea which movies he had in his collection and every telephonic conversation was filled with long and expensive pauses. I would ask for LA Confidential, he would ask me to spell it out, vanish for a couple of minutes and break the news that it was not around. I would ask him for Carrie, he would ask me to spell it out, vanish for a few minutes.. you get the drift.

So when I heard about on-line DVD libraries, I was thrilled. Finally, libraries that will deliver in the boondocks of all boondocks that is Andheri East. Now, we do it in style, I said to myself. Goodbye, you paan chewing Ikiru carrier, you. David Mamet, here I come.

I sent a questionnaire to four online DVD libraries in Mumbai. Catchflix.com, Clixflix.com, Seventymm.com and Moviemart.in. Vinay from catchflix.com was decent enough to reply, the others maintained a discreet silence, probably thinking that I was a competitor digging for information.

Catchflix.com is a Bangalore based outfit which delivers movie discs in Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, NCR region and Bhubaneshwar. They do not charge a security deposit or a membership fee. The only catch is you have to book your movie one day before and you will get your delivery the next business day. They have a cheque option for their 20 and 50 movie packages.

Clixflix.com is a Mumbai based operation that promises to deliver up to Belapur. They have various membership plans and the amount of security deposit varies from plan to plan. They accept cheques and online payments. These are the only guys from the four who have brick and mortar shops in Mumbai as well.

Moviemart.in is also a Mumbai based wallah promising free delivery. He assures delivery on the same day, if you order before 1 pm, but if you are later than that, you will have to wait for 1 business day. They will accept your cheques and credit cards.

Seventymm.com charges a security deposit of 999 bucks and hold your breath, a registration fee. They deliver in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. They have a persistent chap who calls me whenever they have a new scheme.

Downloading movies is costly, Coz internet in India is costly. At 256kbps, we can download 1-2 GB daily (non-stop) and the cost per day for net comes to around INR 40. i.e. We get 2-3 DVDRips (700MB each) in 40 bucks. Why not get 2 DVDs in 33 bucks and enjoy an excellent Quality. You can dump ur DVDs on HD or write DVDs urself.

Looks like u haven't browsed through the DVD Library sites. In some plans u can get 2 or more DVDs at a time and everyday u can order new sets... So 60+ DVDs per month... And that's a huge number ;-)
