Nokia E65

Nokia E65

Frazier Barretto, Dec 10, 2007 1633 hrs IST

Here's another business phone with flaunt value. Here's how it faired in our labs.

Stylish, Sturdy, Lots of applications provided, 2MP Camera, CIF Video recording.

Buggy OS, Cramped keys around D-Pad, Mono Headset, Poor Still image quality, Poor speaker on incoming calls.

Design

The Nokia E65 has been given a stylish business personality. It's the first from the E Series to sport a slider form factor.

The E65 has a 1.8-inch TFT screen with support for 16 million colors. The screen provides a 240x320 pixels resolution for sharp and clear viewing.

In the center above the screen is the earpiece of the phone.

The D-Pad of the E65 has got to be one of the most cramped. It has 10 buttons around the 5 way D-Pad. Fitting 10 keys is not an issue, but keeping all of them ergonomic is an art.

The entire set of keys is placed in a rectangular section. 2 menu keys are placed in the top corners while in the lower 2 corners are the calling keys. Between the calling keys is the Main Menu key towards the left and the Clear key towards the right.

On the left side of the D-Pad is a Calling Groups/Conference Call button and below it is a customizable key to any of the presets provided. On the right side there's a phonebook shortcut button, and below it is a button to activate or deactivate the microphone during a call. In the center is the D-Pad which has a squared glossy ring with a large center button. The D-Pad is fine to access, but when it comes to the corner keys and the Menu and Clear buttons, there's no asking how much strain or miss-clicks can happen. I'll talk about the rest of the keypad a little later.

My E 65 is the one which is coffee brown in colour. I would like to change it to red because it looks quite cute. Someone could you tell me where I can order for a panel and body (red) over the net. Also tell me the cost of the spares.

Hello there, I bought this phone way back in March 07 and love it. I believe major reason all Nokia phones with 3G (UTMS) have low battery life is because by default they are set to GSM/3G mode in network settings. Once you change to GSM only mode, battery life increases almost by 30 to 40%. My phone goes 2 days without charging with moderate calls, music for 30 min a day, mail client checking mails through WLAN/GPRS/EDGE every 2 hours and I browse net while at home on an average for 30 min a day using WLAN. The problems you mentioned about phone not answering calls, reboots etc have more or less gone after the recent firmware update to 2.0633.65.01 One thing I love this phone for is dedicated hardware keys for Conference and Mute functions. It even allows me to store my conf bridge Pin which is quite useful. My only gripe about this phone is that why didn't Nokia put Symbian OS 9 FP1 (just like N95) on this. That would have made this phone quite stable. And yes I agree 100% that a business phone should be either without camera or having one of the best camera. Home this loooong essay helps someone.

Nokia phones are nowadays crap. motorola is gaining momentum in india. nokia is concentrating on bringing new models to the market but least bothered about quality

Guys this is a time to review Nokia E51 and not E65. Also FYI Sony Ericsson M600 is no more available and is obloleted by company. Please be careful in writing reviews as people follow you.
