Mundu Radio

Mundu Radio

Frazier Barretto, Jan 28, 2007 1200 hrs IST

Mundu Radio is a novel option for the music lovers. Let's check how novel and appealing is it?

Good concept, Supports EDGE and WiFi, Lots of music choice, Personalized stations, Free service

Low bandwidth, Only smartphone support

The radio has a default list of Radio Stations displayed according to Genre of music.

The Genres of music addressed are Acoustic, Ambient, Beat, Classical, Country, Dance, Disco, India, Instrumental, Jazz, News, Oldies, Pop, and Rock. There are numerous radio stations under each of these Genres. At least two stations under each Genre that in itself takes the count to 28 stations but there are around 50 stations. All of the above mentioned Genres will surely cover all tastes of music and even all the local music is covered under the India Genre.

What's more is that you can personalize Mundu Radio to your own list of radio stations. So for e.g. if you like listening to a specific Rock station you can just log-in (online) and add that to the list of stations.

The only problem I see here was that it can get a bit too techy to get the IP of the radio station.

You can set Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this setting). Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings. Select Automatically detect settings, and then click OK. Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed. If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0. Click the Back button to try another link. Cannot find server or DNS Error Internet Explorer

Not sure if you guys have heard of the community radio concept. its real popular in US where universities and groups play songs of emerging artists for free... I recently came across one in India at : http://www.hyderabadbuzz.com/LiveRadio.asp

by December, Hyderabad, on Feb 13, 2007 05:20 PM, Report abuse   Reply

The concept seems to be inline with where most content providers are heading. However all you guys are right in raising the point that untill the underlying infrastucture upgrades and costs are driven down the sucess of mundu in india might be limited to a certain audience.India at the end of a day is a very cost sensitive market.

hi ,i m using this since 1 month n its amazing ,while airtel provides gprs for 700rs for 2 month unlimited download but this is other matter that u cant do more on such lazy speed.u can play only stations that brodcast no morethen 24kbps max.but untill its free its good.

by shakti, faridkot, on Feb 04, 2007 06:29 PM, Report abuse   Reply

Airtel Prepaid offers a service called Mobile Office for a much cheaper rate with unlimited data transfers either on the phone or using a pc... check it out!!

I'll wait till Wi-Max arrives, it will beat the ___ out of the GPRSs / mundus / etc...

by Anshuman Seth, Noida, on Jan 29, 2007 11:52 AM, Report abuse   Reply

When Wi-Max arrives, mundu radio will really rock! Imagine listening to a radio station streaming at 128kbps. The audio quality would beat the ___ out of most portable MP3 players like the iPOD.

by Ketan, Ahmedabad, on Jan 31, 2007 11:29 PM, Report abuse

it sucks! if you have a smartfone why would you use mundu and pay for it(gprs chg). i would rather listen to my MP3 on my fone.

by Harshit, Mumbai, on Jan 28, 2007 10:08 PM, Report abuse   Reply

Hi. reason you have a smartphone is coz it allows you easy access to the internet and most probably, you use GPRS already for other apps like content download, web browsing, IM or Email. So you not paying only for mundu. Plus to match the variety of music you get with mundu, it would take a lot of MP3 files to transfer to your phone

by Ketan, Ahmedabad, on Jan 31, 2007 11:20 PM, Report abuse

Heck, y wud anyone want to spend money on GPRS just for listening to radio?? Phones these days have lot of memory and you can store ur favourite music and listen to it. This concept will take few more years to catch up, unless ofcourse WiFi-MAX or GPRS becomes cheap!!

by Shawn, Mumbai, on Jan 30, 2007 10:12 AM, Report abuse   Reply

While I may agree with you on GPRS solely for Radio being some time away, most smartphone users sign up for a data plan that lets them access their mail, instant messaging and the web. Net radio will complement these services immediately. Another advantage is the fact that I carry one device less at this time (read MP3 player) with Mundu Radio on my Palm phone and this lets me tune into music of my choice and it expands my music horizons.

GPRS is too expensive these days, I think rarely any offers unlimited package at decent price. So I would rather prefer to listen on my desktop or laptop
