Motorola ROKR Z6

It will rock, or will it not - here's some insight from us to help you decide whether you should give this Moto a chance to rock you.

Linux OS, Brilliant Interface, 1GB Card, EDGE (Class 12)

No FM, Poor 2 MP Camera, QCIF Video Recording

Design

The ROKR Z6, as I mentioned, hails from the RIZR Z3, therefore both share the same design, as well as the minor changes have lead to this phone to give a much better physical feel. The face of Z6 has a much better gloss finish with fingerprints noticeable only on the screen. The screen has been pumped up to support a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, and is also a bit larger in size. Its D-Pad is full metal and a bit elevated for comfort.

Moving over to the menu button setup, the Internet Browser hotkey has been replaced with a Music Player key. The keypad of the phone is still plastic, just like the RAZR keypad. The rubberized finish for the back is smooth, and still doesn't prevent the phone from sliding off the table.

All these minor cosmetic changes have enhanced the physics of the phone. The weight of the phone is now 105 grams, as compared to the RIZR Z3, which was 115 grams. The rest of the phone remains the same; you can take a peek into RIZR Z3's review for in-depth details.

Finally a New OS

We've talked about enough similarities between the Z3 and our new contender here, now let's talk about the new features that the Z6 is packed with. The new OS is Linux-based, and is as smooth as a hot knife cutting through butter, I say. The phone processor is also quite powerful for which I'd like to give you an example: usually, when we have music playing on the phone and you take a picture with the camera, the music pauses for a brief second, even if there's no click sound or the phone is in the silent mode. Well, in the case of the ROKR Z6, this doesn't happen. The OS felt at par, and at times even better than the new Sony Ericsson and Nokia Series 40UI interface. You have to use it to enjoy it, and if you are a Linux fan with a thing for style phones, then you are going to love this phone. Even Mac or Windows fans might fall for it.

As for basics, the phone keeps a log for the last 20 dialed, received, and missed calls. It has a 1000 entry phonebook with photo call facility. Inbuilt memory is 64 MB with a provision for expansion as well; a 1GB microSD card is bundled along. Java MIDP 2.0 support for installing Java applications and a standard set of organizer applications comes pre-installed. For browsing, there is Opera Mobile 8.5 to make browsing a pleasure with WAP 2.0/xHTML support.

I won't say that MotoRokr is very good but upto a level it's useful.... Pros: 1) Good sound quality 2) bluetooth headset 3) For 2.0 Mega Pixel camera, picture quality is good. Cons: 1) No FM tuner 2) Video quality is not that much good.

I bought this cell, its good. got as a birthday gift, the cell phone is good, better than my w700i only thing is lacks is FM, quality of cam is OK ,but i personally think that it is worth 4 stars, the sound quality is superb, better than my w700i. sound quality is good altogether, headphones are good, it has thump after all. everyone has their own views, same here even after differentiating it from w610i it got four stars?!! confusing eh? but its good in its class, somehow i PERSONALLY feel its better than nokia 5310 xpress music(not bcoz i owe it) i never used a w610i though.

I bought one and found this phone to be very good. Things I liked: - Clear voice quality - Music quality very good on its earphones. I didnt buy the bluetooth headset, so cannot comment about it - Download songs very fast from PC. Much faster than video ipod I am using -Interface & display -Comes with pre recorded 2 hr live concert of Roger waters. Must for pink floyd fans

This fone Motorola ROKR Z6 has been given 4 stars in rating -same as SE W-610i. This i think is unfair- like putting cheese & chalk in same category- this According to you ?The quality of sound is average; the standard earphones are also very basic and come nowhere close to the sound quality of the Walkman phones. There is no FM tuner for the phone? As also camera The images produced were blurry and grainy as well. The images shot at night were bad even with the flash on.?this phone has 4 Stars? Whereas in your own interview of W-610i- I quote you ?The FM tuner of the W610i is quite nice. There isn't much to say here except that the reception was pretty clear while being on the move-It's a Walkman phone and like any other Walkman, this too has a great sound output; earplugs as well as its speaker. The earplugs are actually what put the Walkman a step ahead of other music phones. The sound is crisp and there are no signs of the sound cracking at top volume. Compared to the W810i, I'd say its sound quality is at par with the W850i. The speaker of the phone is loud, much louder than previous Walkmans. It is loud and doesn't crack, but don't use it a lot as for that there are portable speakers bundled along. These speakers are really good; This fone also has 4 Stars rating. The rating system seems rather skewed and confused. Chalk & cheese have same rating !!

A few weeks back for a similar complaint, TT had justified it saying that the rating system takes price into account and therefore a cheaper though inferior device may get better ratings as it is better VFM. Don't know how they will justify it this time.

TT Review = CRAP

TT reviews r not that good.

by sidk, Ghaziabad, on Jul 28, 2007 01:54 PM, Report abuse

TT should standardise their reviews they always stat whithin 3-4 Stars (nowadays) so only 3 diff scales (3-3.5-4) noone can catogerise all fones in 3 categories price is relative term it could be possible dat next time whn they review a fone of 10K with features less dan this fone and give 4.5 stars yo iy this fone gets down to 10k i think they shoould compare only specifications basis

No FM Radio and no additional speakers. It is not worth the price. These are a must add-ons and features.

by Nitin, Bangalore, on Jul 24, 2007 05:34 PM, Report abuse   Reply

No FM, ordinary audio quality, camera quality is poor, what is the purpose of spending around 12,000Rs. No sense at all.
